Aquafina cringed at the attack that came and straightened herself when Spheal seemed to be okay, well, as okay as it could be when paralyzed. With a glint in her eyes, the Gym Leader watched her opponent carefully before staring at Spheal again.
"Powder snow! Come on!" She called. Spheal tried to take a deep breath again to prepare the attack, wanting to obey.

Riolu immediately leaped away from the attack and behind Spheal. "Alright Riolu! Get him with a Sky Uppercut again!" Aldo called as Riolu pulled his arm back to swing at his opponent.

Though paralyzed, Spheal still held it's own fairly well against Riolu and Aquafina couldn't be prouder. Now if only she could land an attack.
"Water gun!" She called again.

Aquafina sighed at the battle. They were really going nowhere with this. Spheal continued to whimper in paralysis but was still able to dodge the attacks Riolu sent to him.
"Spheal, if you can dodge, you can attack. Please? Water gun." She asked exasperatedly.

Aldo sighed as Riolu looked at the paralyzed Spheal. "Rio...He's paralyzed. You shouldn't be having this much trouble," he said to the small Pokemon. "Try Sky Uppercut again," he said with a sigh as Riolu leaped at Spheal and knocked the ball-like Pokemon into the air

This was getting no where, and fast. Ugh. Aquafina shook her head and brushed a hand through her hair, muttering quietly to herself that sometimes she longed for the days as a trainer, when she was able to switch out pokemon on a whim! The trials of being a Gym Leader, oi.
Whelp, no sense in whining over spilled milk. Or water. WHATEVER!
"Spheal, you've held on this long, let's see if we can't do just a littttttle bit of damage, shall we? Try an ice ball, m'dear!"
[RESULT: 2]
No dice. Well.... shoot!

Aldo gave a small smile as Riolu finally managed to actually land a hit on the Spheal and the paralysis continued to set in with the opposing Pokemon. "Riolu...I'm begging you to end this now. I don't care how you do it, just finish it already," Aldo said as Riolu turned towards him and nodded before leaping at Spheal with another Sky Uppercut, only to miss once again.

Well... Yay for good luck maybe? Aquafina shrugged her shoulders a bit then sighed. "Well, this is fun isn't it?" she asked of her spheal with a chuckle. Spheal, on the other hand, was locked both in the throws of paralysis and ice ball, and had really no choice but to conduct another attack. Hopefully, maybe, prayyyy he could move this time?
[RESULT: 9] +1 Ice Ball effect, +1 Defense Curl boost
Spheal seemed to have had enough of the little stand off, and executed a quite brilliant attack, if Aquafina did say so herself. She let out a whoop and pumped her fist in the air a few times. "That's the way to do it!"

The Gym Leader gritted her teeth as her poor, stubborn little Spheal was finally knocked out of the battle. It had been fairly inevitable, yes, but she still hated to see her babies loose. Still! At least he went out with a bang, taking out a good chunk of his opponent's health before he went. So it was with great pride that Aquafina recalled the little ball of paralyzed fluff, dropping a kiss on his pokeball.
"Well, that was a good warmup. On to the next event, yes?" With that, she tossed up her next pokeball and cherily called out "Bubble!" as the form of her chinchou materialized.
[RESULT: 1]
She then promptly facepalmed. That's what happens when one tries to get the drop on ones opponent, she supposed. Sigh. It was going to be a long day.

Finally, Aldo thought to himself as Aquafina sent out Chinchou. "Riolu, that's enough for now," he said to the Fighting-type who reluctantly returned to the sidelines. "Marshtomp, your turn," he instructed as the newly evolved Pokemon ran out to join the fight. "Start things simple and use Growl," he instructed as Marshtomp growled threateningly at the Chinchou.
[RESULT: 7] (-2 Chinchou's Attacks)

Aquafina couldn't help but frown a bit as the riolu was recalled. As much as she had been wishing that she was able to switch out pokemon a moment ago, she despised trainers who did things like heal. It very much rubbed her in the cheater sort of way, but there was no rule against it, and so she didn't protest.
Still, she sounded a bit grumpy as she called out, "Chinchou, confuse ray!"
[RESULT: 6] Marshtomp is now confused
Well, that was useful, at least.

"...You seem fine enough. Try Mud-Shot, okay?" Aldo said as Marshtomp tried to attack Chinchou.

Confusion was useful, but not when it did nothing. At least not this round. Oh well. She watched her chinchou shake off the attack and nodded in approval. "Good girl! Use water gun!"

Sigh. This day just got better and better. She was really going to have to up her training regimen when this was over.
