"Okay, let's try this again," Aldo said with an aggravated look at the home of the local gym leader. The last time he'd tried to challenge a gym, it had ended up being shut down because of some emergency. He didn't see any immediate signs that the gym was shut down, but he couldn't be too careful. Stepping forward, he felt two of his Pokeballs move before opening and releasing Mudkip and Lillipup. "What do you two wa-" he began before they both began glowing and grew. When the glow finally faded away, Aldo saw that both of his Pokemon had evolved, Mudkip (now Marshtomp) now standing on his hind legs cheerfully while the fur around Lillipup's (now a Herdier) back had become a pitch black. "Very impressive. Now let's go," Aldo said, turning to head towards the gym and being knocked down from behind by Herdier. Marshtomp also ran towards the two of them, but tripped over his feet and slid along towards them.
"Of course you two couldn't have changed," Aldo remarked with a sigh, dragging himself out from under his clingy Herdier and making his way over to Aquafina's house and knocking on the door.

Aquafina watched the evolution take place as she went out to meet her challenger, and she smiled softly at the trio.
"Well now, not everyday I get to see an evolution BEFORE I`m challenged. You ARE here to challenge me right?" She asked as a Floatzel appeared behind her. With another smile, she began walking along the docks towards the large circle of water where battles took place.

"Yeah, I was hoping to challenge you," Aldo said, releasing a breath he hadn't been aware he'd been holding in as he followed after Aquafina to the gym stage, with Herdier and Marshtomp following along after him. "Okay, so let's get started than," he said with a small smile on his face as he faced the gym leader.

Aquafina smiled at him while she stretched on the dock on her side of the field, taking off her jacket to reveal her bathing suit. A bystander broke off from the crowd and walked to another side of the field, taking out some flags.
"Then by all means, let's begin." Aquafina said while the bystander-turned-referee cleared their throat.
"The battle between Gym Leader Aquafine and Challenger Aldo is about to begin. Each trainer will use 3 pokemon, but only the challenger may make substitutions." He said while Aquafina took out a ring, tossing it like a frisbee into the air.
"Spheal, let's start this match off right!" She called as one of the pokeballs burst open. The pokemon fell into the water, but it jumped out again and smacked the falling ring back to it's trainer.
"Spheal!" It cried, ready for battle.

"Alright than," Aldo said, looking at his two newly evolved Pokemon for a second to determine which of them to send out first before looking down at his two remaining Pokeballs. "Riolu! Start us off!" he instructed as the dog like Pokemon appeared from his Pokeball and immediately took a fighting pose...at least until he saw that Marshtomp and Herdier and raised up his fist at the two of them.
"Rio!" Strange Pokemon! he said eagerly, jabbing at the air.
"Not them, they're our friends. That one," his trainer said, pointing at the Spheal with a sigh.

Aquafina gave an amused smile at Aldo while she squared her shoulders, a slight crack being heard.
"Ladies First eh? What a gentleman, but chivalry will get you nowhere with me. Show him with Water Gun Spheal!" She commanded while the tiny blue ball glared, sucking in a deep breath and blasting a shot of water at Riolu.

Riolu brought his hands up to protect himself, but the water harmlessly hit the ground in front of him. "Alright than Rio. Let's start with Sky Uppercut," Aldo said as Riolu leaped at Spheal, pulling his arm back to knock the ball like Pokemon into the air.

Spheal was angry at the dodged attack and countered Riolu's attack by diving into the water, making the dog-like pokemon fall in after her. With a chuckle, Aquafina dove into the water and gestured towards the Spheal to come up.
"Get back up here silly boy, and use Water Gun again!" She called. Spheal jumped up from the water in front of Riolu and aimed another water gun at him, determined to hit his target again.

This time, Riolu was unable to either dodge or get out of the way of the attack and was blown out of the lake and into the sky. "Riolu! Force Palm before they can attack again!" Aldo called to the small Fighting-type, who settled himself into a dive and reached out towards Spheal, firing a small blast at the Pokemon.
[RESULT: 2] +1 Type Advantage

Spheal managed to avoid most of the attack by diving underwater, softening the impact. Aquafina pulled herself out of the water and back onto the dock and watched the battle carefully.
"Defense curl!" She called out. Spheal pulled its flippers, tail and ears against it's body to execute the move.
[RESULT: 7] All attacks against Spheal are decreased by 2

Riolu saw Spheal curling up to protect itself and looked to his trainer for advice. "Okay, try Thunder Punch this time," Aldo said hopefully as Rio leaped at Spheal with a fist crackling with electricity.

Spheal emerged from the attack unscathed and Aquafina gave a confident smirk.
"Now what are you going to do?" She asked as Spheal rolled in the water over and over, screaming from delight.
"SPHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!" He wailed. Aquafina facepalmed and shook her head in exasperation.
"Alright you little spazz, get a grip and use Water Gun once more." She commanded. Spheal eagerly obeyed her, leaping out of the water and firing another blast of water at Riolu.
[RESULT: Miss]

Riolu eagerly jumped out of the way from Spheal's attack, leaping towards the ball-like seal. "Riolu! Try for Force Palm again!" Aldo called to Riolu, who immediately thrust his hand out towards Spheal and fired off a blast of energy.
[RESULT: 8] +1 Type Advantage -2 Defense Curl (Spheal is paralyzed)

Spheal whimpered from the pain coursing through it, and Aquafina could help but frown in sympathy.
"Please keep trying, water gun again." She called, Spheal struggled against it's paralysis to try and take a breath for the desired attack.
