Sawyer clutched the straps against her shoulders as she approached a quaint little cabin placed at the end of the field. This was where she was both told and had assumed her Gym battle would be. Casting her amber gaze about and not spotting the Leader right away, she shrugged and strolled forward.
So far the only thing running through her mind were battle techniques and strategies - ones she'd both seen during her training and tried to imagine in her mind. Luca going this way and doing that; Paisley running around and trying that.. it was near genius. But, then again, she hadn't had the patience to practice many routines with her pokemon. She was sure Luca would handle it a little better than Paisley, since he wasn't as headstrong and ready to fight like the ball of wool. Her hands were red and sore by the time she lowered them to knock on the door, not noticing that she'd significantly tightened her grasp on her pack straps.
As she knocked, Sawyer paused. Either Wendy would answer the door, or swoop down on her from the sky in some sort of 'humorous' prank...

From the skies a dark from leapt, landing on Sawyer's shoulder's with a thump. The bird leaned over her head and looked into her eyes, evil intently etched on its face.
"Honch!" It squawked, laughing at Sawyer. The door opened to reveal a relaxed-looking Wendy, who shooed the Honchkrow away.
"Go get Trevor Honchkrow. I was expecting you! Ready for our battle? Right this way." She said, leading Sawyer to the field. They stood on opposite sides of the field while Trevor and his Fearow, Screecher, stood on the sidelines. The gruff Center Head cleared his throat and looked over the combatants with a grin.
"Nice ter see yer again Sawyer. Alright, the battle between Gustella Gym Leader Wendy and the challenger Sawyer of Blizzara will now commence. Each trainer is allowed to use up to three pokemon each, but only the challenger may make substitutions. The battle is over when one trainer loses all of their pokemon. Begin!" He said, throwing his arms down. Wendy grabbed a pokeball off her belt and tossed it high.
"Farfetch'd, let's start this off right!" She said as the little duck pokemon emerged from the ball, holding it's stick proudly.
"Farfetch'd!" He declared. Wendy crossed her arms and nodded to Sawyer, tilting her sunglasses up.
"You get the first move Sawyer!" She said, patiently waiting.

Sawyer gulped when she felt the pressure upon her shoulders, hesitant to look up. However, when she did, she actually found the Honchcrow to be rather humorous. She smirked playfully and chuckled, also waving a hand at the pokemon when Wendy burst through the door. She'd been expecting her? Oh my, how much that spiked her ego. "Ready as ever" she replied, skipping with her head held high after the Leader. How awesome this was going to be!
She nodded to Trevor when he bespoke her, turning to face Wendy immediately after. Already her fingers were piddling with the left-most pokeball on her belt, tracing the white outline around the button she was about to press. Her foot began to tap, and thankfully, a Farfetch'd was sent out in a matter of moments. Hmm... how had she planned this, again? Ah, right right. Flicking her hair back and whipping it into a simple Ponyta-tail, Sawyer plucked her chosen pokeball and tossed it onto the field.
"Axew!" Luca cried, stomping his feet and staring hard at the dual type. The girl in turn spread her legs slightly and braced herself for the oncoming battle. "Alrighty then. Luca, use Dual Chop!" the little lizard huffed, dashing forward with newfound determination, his tusks glowing.

Wendy watched Luca run toward her Farfetch'd with mild amusement and uncrossed her arms.
"Take it to the skies Farfetch'd!" She called. With lightning-fast speed Farfetch'd leapt into the air, evading the Dual-Chop with ease. Farfetched circled around in the air while waiting for a command from Wendy, who gave a smirk toward Sawyer.
"Hand-to-hand combat won't work against my birds. Farfetch'd, let's do this right, use Aerial Ace!" She commanded.
[RESULT: 8]
Farfetch'd flipped once in the air and came spiraling down, smashing into Luca's gut.

Sawyer pulled her head back and grimaced. Tch, I should have thought of that... Luca sighed to himself and shook his head, disappointed that he hadn't hit the bird at all. "Don't worry bud, it's not your fault. That pokemon's extremely fast, and you're still getting used to the move." The Axew tilted his head and considered it. She was true to some degree - he had only just learned Dual Chop. However, he still blamed himself for not landing it.
Sawyer watched the pokemon zip about in the air, and was about to instruct Luca into a more alert position, but it was simply too fast. Before she knew it Wendy was calling out an attack and the Farfetch'd was darting with amazing speed towards her partner. The only thing she knew to do was use their training to her advantage. Gulping, the young teen pointed at the opponent and furrowed her brow.
"Now, Luca! Dragon Rage!" The Axew squeaked as soon as it was hit, however, when it fell to the ground it used both the force from the impact and the attack to help belt out the peppery flame. Unfortunately, he mustered more pepper than flame, and barely singed the pokemon's feathers.

Farfetch'd laughed mockingly at his opponent's failed attack, earning a dissatisfied sound from Wendy.
"Now now, you know better. Now, use Aerial Ace again!" She commanded. The Farfetch'd divebombed towards Luca again, still grinning wickedly at the little dragon.
[RESULT: 4]
Luca was a little more prepared this time, and managed to block most of the attack. Wendy tilted her head at the rather unlucky dragon and sighed.
"You know, you CAN switch your pokemon. Perhaps you should consider resting your Axew, Sawyer?" She offered.

"Axew axew!" Luca snorted, glaring at the Farfetch'd as he soared away for a second time. Silly bird, mocking him like that. Why, he was just getting started! True, he was a little faster than any other opponents he'd faced, but he was slowly getting used to the speed and had been watching for any slow or weak points the pokemon might have slowed. He was pondering to himself once there was a noticeable break in the battle, tapping his chin with a paw. Think, think, think..
His trainer clicked her tongue at the Leader's offer. That was a good idea, and she'd considered it before the battle had started. She did have several Oran berries left from the Lab - she hadn't used a single one yet. But actually recalling her Axew now that the Leader seemed disappointed would make her look like she was a simple young trainer who didn't know anything. Or at least, that's how she felt. With the Farfetch'd still hovering in the air and Luca's health in her mind, Sawyer hung her head a bit and nodded.
"Come back, Luca. It's your turn now Paisley!" Said green pokemon was a little disappointed in being recalled, but he nodded, understanding her reasoning. Even if she did have some apparent strategies, they were still young in the whole training business. Her Mareep appeared in a red flash and sent forth a battle cry as soon as her paws hit the ground. Kneeling down to hand her Axew a berry, Sawyer cast her gaze over to the sheep and cleared her throat.
"Watch him carefully!" she advised, proud to see Paisley holding herself back just enough to not attack yet. During a certain turn in the pokemon's aerial turn, Sawyer snapped her fingers, causing the wooly sheep to let loose a line of sparks. The Thundershock hit dead on, a faint smile appearing on the girl's face.

Wendy winced as the electric attack cooked her Farfetch'd in midair, making him collapse onto the ground below. Farfetch'd got up and shook his head rapidly, trying to recover from the attack.
"Well done Sawyer. Farfetch'd, cut it!" She commanded. Farfetch'd twirled his stick in the air and ran over to Paisely.
[RESULT: 8]
The attack landed dead on, the stick smashing onto the top of her head.

"Camerupt droppings!" the trainer shouted, wincing at how hard the stick hit her partner. Paisley could have said the same thing, but was too busy 'baaaah'ing in confusion and trying to rid herself of the headache that was about to transpire. She may have been knocked down, but she could get right back up! Proving her stubbornness and desire to have a honest battle with the Farfetch'd, the Mareep hopped up and waggled the tip of her tail, more sparks dancing across it.
"Alright, once more, Paisley! Before he takes off!"
Nodding, Paisley grinned and flicked her tail forward, Luca watching curiously. She swung it around a little too fast, but quite a bit of the Thundershock still hit her target.

Farfetch'd cried as Paisley's attack wounded him, and he struggled to stand, panting hard. He needed to step it up if he was gonna get anywhere.
"Aerial Ace!" Cried Wendy as Farfetch'd weakly flopped into the air.
[RESULT: 3] Not Very Effective -1
The fatigue Farfetch'd felt was evident in it's weak attack, barely scraping the sheep.

Yes indeedy, wool sure was a nice thing to have~ or at least, that's what Paisley thought. Fluffing said protection after being hit by the Farfetch'd, the Mareep studied the flight patterns of the bird again, her eyes narrowed when Sawyer barked the call once more.
"Thundershock, Lee! We're so close!" A simple 'maaaaah' was all she got in reply, the sheep's wool adorned with bright sparks as the lightning surged forward, making contact.

Wendy watched as her farfetch'd was attacked, resulting in him being all but totally knocked out.
"Aerial Ace one more time!" She said, hoping to weaken Paisley for the rest of her pokemon.

As good as this was going, Sawyer needed to think twice before attacking again. Paisley was hitting hard and doing really well, but the Farfetch'd was hitting right back. The Mareep's health was whittling down, and even though it had a little while before Paisley was in any real danger, there would still be a point when Oran berries wouldn't be much help. That point, she decided, was now. Catching her pokemon's attention, Sawyer waggled a finger. Snorting unhappily, but obeying, she trotted to the girl's side, Luca quickly taking her place.
"Mmkay Luca, this is your chance!" The Axew had been watching intently from the sidelines and waggled his tail in anticipation. He would not miss this time! He wouldn't allow it! Folding his paws into little fists, he waited until the bird moved close enough for his attack to reach, Paisley finishing her berry when her trainer made the command. "Incinerate!"
[RESULT: 3]
It was just enough to send the Farfetch'd falling toward the ground in defeat, and at that sight, Luca sighed and looked forward proudly. He'd done it. He'd actually done it! "Great job Luca!" Sawyer said, her fist pumping the air as Paisley danced around her ankles. The battle was hardly over, however. Farfetch'd: 0/23Luca: 17/21 Paisley: 21/23

"Farfetch'd is unable to battle, the winner is Luca!" Trevor announced. Wendy smiled and shook her head as she pulled out her pokeball, pointing it at the fainted bird.
"Good job Farfetch'd, return." She said as he was pulled inside. Replacing it on her belt she pulled out another pokeball and tossed it in the air.
"Tranquil, let's go!" She said as the ball opened. From the white light a large, gray bird hovered over the field, staring down Luca.
"Tran!" He said. Wendy smirked at Sawyer and crossed her arms.
"So, how are you going to go about this one?" She asked as Tranquil ruffled his feathers mid-hover.

"Tranquil, huh." Sawyer chewed her lower lip for a second as she thought it over, Luca patiently waiting on the battlefield. Probably not as fast, but who knows how strong its attacks are. A few more moments of milling it over and she snapped her fingers twice, sending the Axew into movement. He made wide circles underneath the pokemon, watching it as he did so. There came a point when the lizard stopped and tilted his head at a certain angle, telling his trainer that it was time.
"Dragon Rage" she said, her voice almost a whisper for whatever reason. Luca didn't hold anything back as he parted his jaws, casting a multicolored plume of fire over the bird.
