Allowing his friends to go on for their Test, Crescendo proceeded to challenge Wendy. The gym leader happily accepted the challenge, leading him to her battlefield. Seeing as how her usual ref was going to be busy, Wendy called in a friend. The Archeops stood as proudly as he could with a smirk on his face, ready for the battle.
"The gym battle between Challenger Crescendo of Celestic and Gym Leader Wendy is about to begin. Each trainer may use 3 pokemon each, but only the challenger may make substitutions. Alright, make this worth the flight from Quakita guys, begin!" He called as Crescendo gripped a pokeball, tossing it up.
"Shroomish, I need your help!" Crescendo cried as the small, green pokemon emerged. She hopped from one foot to the other, itching to battle.

Wendy adjusted her goggles and flipped her hair back a bit in preparation for the battle to come. She smiled inwardly as Crescendo released a Shroomish - he was aware of his type disadvantage, right? Shrugging, the leader decided to save her helpful tips for later, pulling her hand up to her mouth to create a shrill whistle. Almost immediately a rustle was seen in the trees nearby, and in two shakes of a Mareep's tail her Farfetch'd was standing before her.
"Faaaaarfetch'd!" he cried, saluting his trainer and twirling his stick. Wendy nodded and then motioned towards her challenger.
"We have a new lot today, buddy. Let's start out with Aerial Ace! Watch out for any spores if you can!"
Puffing up, the tan bird took to the skies in a blur, spiraling down towards Shroomish to try and land the attack.

Shroomish cried out as the attack connected, yet she stood up and gave a galre at the Farfetch'd. Crescendo smled approvingly at the Shroomish and pulled out his flute, blowing a few notes that seemed to excite the grass pokemon.
"Tackle please." He asked, mimicking his father's politeness when giving a command. Shroomish happily ran forward to deliver an attack Farfetch'd wouldn't forget.
[RESULT: 7]
Crescendo cheered as the attack made a solid blow, and he nodded approvingly at his pokemon.
"We have not known each other long, but I trust my pokemon Wendy. Please, do not underestimate her, for type is not everything." He said as Shroomish returned to stand in front of Crescendo, ready to strike again.

So far, this little pipsqueak didn't seem to be as brash and outgoing as the other trainers she'd battled. That didn't mean he wasn't confident, though. Not at all. His reply sort of agged the leader on, and as Farfetch'd shook his head and took to the skies again to prepare for his trainer's orders, the woman smirked.
"Who said I was underestimating? I would've had Farfetch'd here use a not so effective attack if that were the case, now wouldn't I?" she chimed, cracking her knuckles. "Not bad so far. Aerial Ace again! Try to sweep under her legs and knock her down."

Crescendo watched as his shroomish was thrown onto her head. He cringed as she made impact, but quickly recovered as he saw her bounce back to her feet, though a bit shakily. She shook her head and stared daggers at the Farfetch'd, and Crescendo nodded.
"Heal yourself with Drain Punch please!" He asked quickly, and the Shroomish ran off towards Farfetch'd, leaping up to strike with the opening bud at the top of her head.
[RESULT: 8] +3 health to shroomish
She attached herself to Farfetch'd with her glowing bud, sucking the health out of it and jumping down. Shroomish began to hop from one foot to the other, ready for more.

...Gah. Wendy cringed and crossed her arms to keep herself from flailing about as her pokemon was sent flying backwards, his beak parted in a pant. Great, they were just getting started and already her first front was beginning to fall! However, a smile was still visible on her face as she looked over to her challenger. This was actually rather fun, and as she looked over to Archeops, he seemed to be enjoying it too.
"Ready for this?" she asked the Farfetch'd, who after a good shake of his feathers was in the sky in no time. "Let's aim for a critical hit this time." Knowing what the gym leader implied, the bird pokemon circled overhead for quite a while, waiting for the right moment to strike. When he did, he aimed right for the Shroomish's back, fwapping her hard with his leek as he used Cut.

Shroomish cried out once more as the farfetch'd landed its critical hit, and Crescendo's eyes held a fire to them. He gripped his flute tightly and held out his hand in the direction of his shroomish.
"Drain punch once more please!" He commanded. The small grass pokemon shakily stood up, trying her best to obey as she ran towards Shroomish.
[RESULT: 8] +3 health to Shroomish
Her aim true, Shroomish smashed into Farfetch'd one last time and knocked him into the ground. It knocked out the poor bird pokemon and Shroomish stood uneasily in victory while Archeops raised a wing.
"Farfetch'd is unable to battle, Shroomish wins." He said as Crescendo looked at Wendy confidently.

Wendy stared with her lower jaw slack as Shroomish dealt out another strong attack, thus sending her Farfetch'd to the ground and out for the count. Quickly, as she'd done many times before, the woman rushed out onto the field and scooped up the valiant battler, his leek tapping the button on the pokeball she'd pulled out and withdrawing him. She hated to confine her pokemon to those things, but he'd fought well and needed rest. Nurse Joy could look over him soon.
"You've done excellent so far, Crescendo. Let's see how you do against my next line of offense! Tranquill~" she called, kindly summoning her second pokemon. From the same tree, an underleveled gray bird emerged and alighted down to a spot before his trainer, cooing at the Archeops. He remained hovering in the air, tilting his head and blinking as he waited.
"Shroomish vs Tranquill, begin!" Archeops called, clacking his jaws together. Wendy pointed towards the opponent and prepared to start things off once more.
"Try to send her flying with a Gust!" Eager to obey, Tranquill cheeped and began to flap his wings harder, soon sending a small whirlwind towards the shroom.

Shroomish did not have much energy left, and Crescendo knew this well. He gripped a pokeball at his side tightly, staring at the still-determined grass type. Shroomish looked at him defiantly and he smiled, nodding.
"It's not over until the last move is made, Shroomish, drain punch once more." He called as the weak pokemon rushed towards Tranquil with everything she had.
[RESULT: 2] +3 health to shroomish
Shroomish's exhaustion took a toll as she barely hit the bird pokemon, recovering only a little energy.

Tranquil easily recovered from the minor blow, and he could hardly contain himself as she waited for the next command. Left and right he darted, peering down almost intimidatingly at the Shroomish. Wendy was glad that she'd finally gotten Crescendo's pokemon to this point, but there was no need for him to get so excited.
"Tranquill, calm down or I'll call in Cici to finish your job for you. And we all know how much you despite that cawy laugh of hers." Even though the leader couldn't technically switch out her pokemon, the bird was still afraid of the threat. No, this was his battle! Giving a curt nod, he calmed himself a bit, slowing the beat of his wings to a gentler pace.
"Good. Now, finish this with Peck, if you would."
Needing no encouragement, Tranquill swooped down and lashed his beak against the top of Shroomish's head, bowling her over and taking her out.
[RESULT: 5] Super-effective +1
With that, the bird hopped onto the ground and Archeops lifted his wing again. "Shroomish is unable to battle, this round goes to Tranquill." It was time for Wendy to look over to her challenger expectantly, arching a brow as she wondered what pokemon he would use next. Shroomish: 0/23Tranquill: 24/26 |

Crescendo looked down at his fallen shroomish and gave a small smile, recalling her into her pokeball and softly apologizing to her. Placing the ball back in his hip pouch, he pulled out another pokeball and tossed it gracefully.
"Snivy, please come help me!" He called as the tiny grass snake emerged. He looked up at Tranquil angrily and turned to Crescendo with a glare. The boy smiled and brought his flute to his lips again, playing a few notes which calmed down his pokemon.
"I know you can do it. Please, use Leer." He asked, and Snivy obeyed, turning back to Tranquil.
[RESULT: 2] All attacks do normal damage +1 on Tranquil
Snivy sent a glare at Tranquil that momentarily stunned it, but otherwise had little effect.
Snivy: 23/23
Tranquill: 24/26

A Snivy? This boy had to have something up his sleeve to continue using these weak types against her pokemon, but until then, Wendy had to make every moment count. She and her Tranquill held their ground during the Leer, the bird blinking several times afterward.
"Peck this time, buddy. We're gonna try to take this one out!" she called, smiling as her pokemon let out a battle cry before plummeting towards Snivy. His attack didn't land all that great, but this was still just the beginning.

Snivy gritted his teeth as Tranquil's attack bit into him, hard. Snivy stood up and glared at his opponent as Crescendo breathed calmly, pushing a few breaths into his flute.
"Now Snivy, we have evened the odds a bit. Use Vine Whip please." He said as Snivy obeyed, vines emerging from his collar and rushing towards Wendy.
[RESULT: 6]
And the attack struck true, smashing Tranquil into the ground. But the bird was not done yet, but still, Crescendo smiled.

Snivy wasn't the only one gritting his teeth. Wendy was doing it herself, and rather visibly too as her Tranquill was bowled over by a few vines. Peh, she'd show them yet! The bird got up on his own and shook himself off before taking to the skies again, his trainer giving their opponents no time to think as she commanded him once more.
"Gust!" she said simply, knowing her pokemon would add his own flair. And he did, circling around his targets several times while whipping up the attack, hoping to add more damage that way. However, that wasn't quite the case, and the bird swooped backwards to try and see what he did wrong for next time.
"Don't worry about it! You'll do better" Wendy encouraged him.

Snivy smirked at Trainquil as he came out of the attack virtually unscathed. He tapped his foot as he waited patiently for his trainer to give another command.
"Tackle please." He said as Snivy charged towards Tranquil, glaring intensely as he struggled to make his mark.
[RESULT: 4] + 1
Snivy smashed into his opponent and smiled approvingly at Crescendo, while the boy turned to Wendy and nodded.
"This is quite the match Wendy! I am having fun." He said as he waited for another move.
