Lee had decided to keep Vincent in his pokeball for now, as he began his first few steps on Route 801. He wanted the Venonat to be comfortable and not ware him out before he got to the next town. Granted, Vincent probably wouldn't mind and could probably take the short journey there but Lee decided this was best for now.
As he walked further down the path, however, Vincent decided otherwise. Lee had made good progress down Route 801 before the Venonat suddenly burst from his pokeball and chirped "Venonat! Venonat!" Lee looked in surprise that the pokemon left the pokeball of his own free will. Vincent then jumped atop Lee's head and wrestled with the cap on his head. "Hey. Hey! What are you-? That's my cap! Don't-!" But it was too late.
Venonat was now sitting quietly on Lee's head, wearing his cap. It was probably a fairly odd site, a Venonat with a cap on his head. Lee sighed and gave up his protests and continued to walk down Route 801 as if having a pokemon the size of his Venonat resting on his head and wearing his cap were easy and normal at the same time. "Venonat!" Vincent said as he adjusted the cap on his head.
Lee could only sigh in defeat. "Guess I'll have to get a new cap" he told Vincent as he continued walking.
Later on that day, Lee found himself still walking along Route 801, but much had happened since them. He had been drawn to a commotion caused by Team Necro. Up until just now, Lee had no idea about Team Necro and he felt he was better off not knowing. He couldn't help but think of that Latios that the grunt was using. It was sad, really. But he was glad to help out. Venonat had proven useful in his first battle and his first battle was up against a powerful yet twisted Latios, no less.
Lee looked down at his companion who still wouldn't relinquish his cap. The Venonat certainly looked too amusing walking side by side with him in a cap like it was completely normal. He couldn't help but think how much stronger Vincent had gotten. After that mysterious woman showed up with her pokemon and sent away Team Necro, Lee received an item that powered up his Venonat a good deal. He certainly felt ready for any future battles now.
As he was traveling, someone came running in his direction. The lad, who only looked to be about three or four years younger than Lee, stopped right infront of him and Vincent. The young lad bent over, placing his hands on his knees and trying to catch his breath. After a few moments he looked up and his face suddenly changed expression.
"Yeah. You definently have to be him. You look just like your father. Your name Lee, by any chance?" the lad asked him. Lee simply shook his head, wondering what all this was about. When the young lad got his answer, he beamed, then reached in his backpack for something. After a few moments, he extended his hand out to Lee. In his hand was a pokeball with a note under it.
"Your father contacted me from the next town. Sent this to me and said to go to your house to deliver this to you. I better get going though! I'll tell your father you said hello. Have fun on your pokemon journey!" and just like that, the lad was off again. Lee looked curiously at the pokeball and note that was now in his hands. He sat on the ground, and placed the pokeball next to him. Vincent looked over it curiously, but didn't touch it.
Lee opened the letter and read it aloud. "Dear Lee, your Mom sent me word that you started your pokemon journey today. I understand you decided to become a trainer instead of a coordinator. Well, maybe you'll change your mind one day. I caught this little guy a few days ago. I figure you could make better use of him, considering the gym challenges you'll face. It's my gift to you, for starting your journey."
Lee folded up the note and placed it in his sack. He was curious what his father had sent him. He grabbed the pokeball next to him and released the pokemon from it. Some bright lights and moments later, the pokemon was revealed to be a Pikachu. "Pika?" the Pikachu seemed to question him. Lee blinked a few times in surprise. Already he had two pokemon and this Pikachu seemed to be quite strong starting out.
Lee nodded in approval and thought of what to name it. "I will call you Maverick." Lee said aloud. The Pikachu walked up to him and sniffed him curiously before approving. Lee scratched the little guy on the head. "Maverick return." Lee shouted as he returned the Pikachu to his pokeball. Lee got up and placed the pokeball securely on himself before continuing to travel down Route 801.
