To say that Jack was pleased with her new Pokemon would be an understatement. they were healthy, friendly, (at least to her she had yet to see them interact with other humans) and most importantly able to keep up with her. She couldn't wait for the day for her to reach home so she could show them off like her brothers had before her.
Her face fell at that thought. Already she missed them terrible. They hadn't warned her about that. She sat down with a thump in the middle of the road. In short she felt lost. Her brothers had always been there to guide her, to help her stand when she fell. To push her forward when she wanted to give up.
For all their heckling pushy over-bearing smothering ways she wanted nothing more then to be with them right now. IF they were together right now they might be playing or fishing, or trying to make John's truck last longer. Maybe even sliding down the dust hill or just laying in the grass soaking up the sun or...
Scarlet grabbed her attention by jumping on her heard listening to something coming up the trail.

The thing coming up the trail grew closer, its claws scratching at the hard, dusty road. The large metal bird took step after step, careful not to drop its passengers, intent on its destination. From on its back, a young teen looked over the Skarmory's neck and saw someone sitting on the road. He frowned as he set a hand on the skarmory, remembering his father's advice to give help to those who needed it. Skarmory stopped as the teen jumped down, a Snivy on his shoulder, and leaned over the girl, his father's cape slightly obscuring him. He could see the tears that threatened to form in her eyes and spill over and he frowned. That would not do. So he did the only thing he knew how. He sat in front of her, pulled out his flute and began to play in the hopes the power of music would lift her spirits, as his father told him it always would.
Near the end of the song, the young man ceased playing and looked up at the girl, smiling warmly at her. "Are you alright miss? Perhaps you are lost? My Skarmory is strong enough, we could give you a lift to where you need to go?" He said, Skarmory and Snivy nodding in confirmation.

Jack had drifted off at the sound of a beautifully played flute. She had closed her eyes and let it lull her into a happier place. She stayed there until a voice spoke.
Her eyes flew open and her head jerked up. She stared at the boy. Handsome boy her mind registered. She bolted into a standing position with her cheeks blazing red. Then she remembered he had said something. "Ah... um... er"
sh%^ this was another thing her brothers hadn't taught. How to talk to boys. There was only one boy her age in Lost town. And they never spoke because when she was eight she had followed her brothers advise. If a boy touches you kick him in the ball. Even if he only talks to you you kick him in the balls Well she couldn't do that. He was offering help. Even if she didn't need it, but he didn't know that. "Gustella." She managed to choke out.

Crescendo smiled as he put away his flute, ignoring her awkwardness, standing up and walking back to his Skarmory, who had been sitting contently moments ago. Crescendo hopped upon its back and extended his hand to Jack, still smiling softly.
"We happen to be heading there ourselves for our first gym battle. Why don't you join us? It would be nice to have some company that would talk back once in awhile." He said, saying the latter rather loudly at his pokemon. Snivy simply snorted and looked away while Skarmory warbled softly. The boy rolled his eyes ans hook his head, turning back to Jack and continued to hold his hand out.
"My name is Crescendo, I am a pokemon trainer and these two are my friends, Snivy and Skarmory." He said, trying to be friendly.

"Crescendo. Crescendo. Crescendo." Jack muttered under her breath making sure the name got cemented into her brain. That a an interesting name. "Oh um...Jack, Scarlet, Crimson."She pointed at each of her Pokemon respectively.
She looked at her Pokemon hoping they would know what to do and give her a hint. Crimson was ignoring everything in the favor of Grooming himself and Scarlet was chattering away to the Skarmory and Snivy. When the Skarmory lowered his head and let Scarlet jump on Jack decided to take Crescendo's offer.
Jack inhaled deeply steeling herself to say a complete coherent sentence. "A ride to Gustella would be lovely. If you are offering we are accepting." She took his hand and let him help her aboard.
"Crimson!" Crimson gave his fur a final lick before jumping onto the Skarmory and settling himself behind her.

Skarmory audibly groaned at the sudden weight added, but otherwise gave no complaint as he stood up, beginning to trek forward once more on the dusty road, his claws scratching against the dirt. Crescendo leaned back against the metal neck and looked at Jack with a smile.
"So, what brings you to Gustella? Are you wanting to challenge the gym as well?" He asked, tilting his head. To be honest, it really didn't matter one way or another to him as to why she wanted to go to Gustella. But he figured that if he kept her talking, she'd forget why she was crying earlier. Crescendo never did like seeing a female cry, and his father telling him it was the worst sight in the world had nothing to do with it. Crescendo never liked seeing anyone sad really. Snivy rolled his eyes as he yawned, crawling into Crescendo's lap to curl up and sleep.

She shook her head. "Breeding." keep talking keep talking, she chanted in her head. "But I do need to see the leader."
She noticed that he had a funny accent. Not that she was any good at identifying accents but he didn't sound like he was from anywhere near Lost town. Maybe not even from Varaia. "Your voice sounds funny. Where are you from?" she blurted out before she could think twice. Her shyness took a backseat with the idea of learning something new.
Scarlet slid down Skarmory's neck landed on Crescendo's and jumped onto her's. "Scarlet you're being rude." Jack lectured as she flicked the Zorua in the nose. She quickly turned her attention back to Crescendo eager for his response.

Crsecendo laughed at Scarlet's antics and shook his head at her.
"Nono, it's fine. I like surprises like that. Dad told me that's the best part about pokemon." He said, petting his Snivy. Her question about his origins pleased him, as it showed she was doing much better. Score one for the "inexperienced" son! He thought happily.
"Well, I come from Celestic Town in Sinnoh. My dad liked to do battles and contests, but I prefer regular battling." He told her, continuing to pet his Snivy. He tilted his head at her earlier statement to be a breeder, smiling as he turned the thought over.
"I see. So you like breeding huh? That's cool. Must be fun, finding all the secret spots. It's like an advanced version of hide and seek." he said, chuckling to himself at his comparison.

Frustrated was an understatement. Exasperated was close to being an understatement. The amount of annoyance and irritation building in Edric was threatening to bubble over and explode at any moment, and evident in his sporadic actions. He could hear Meema trudging behind him, her steps light as she could make them, but her bulky size made this quite difficult. She would constantly reach out to try and adjust Edric's scarf or pat down his hair in almost a motherly fashion, but every time she was met with a slew of fairly foul language and a flailing of arms. Edric did not have time for such nonsense. His temper only grew each time Meema 'tutted' her disappointment at his response to her actions. What wasn't she understanding about this situation? He had wanted to get to Gustella as fast as possible. He had not wanted to be thrashing about off the beaten path looking for some little worm of a pokemon who seemed to give Edric no consideration whatsoever.
He was almost ready to give up his search when a small rustling came from the bushes somewhere off to Edric's left. Stumbling through the flora he pushed away the bushes to see Adir sprawled out under the shade of an apple tree, contentedly enjoying the fruit that had fallen to the ground. Okay, this was the final straw. Who did this little lizard think it was? "ADIR!"
The Larvitar eyed his trainer with disinterest before returning to his snack. Edric would have completely lost it at that point if Meema hadn't lumbered past him and scooped up Adir into her arms. The smaller pokemon immediate tried to spurn her advances but was no mach for the Kangaskhan's sheer size. Ignoring Adir's flailing limbs and angry cries she walked forward and grabbed one of Edric's arms pulling him happily along as she marched forward, heading back for the road now that they were all present. Edric's enraged shouts and Adir's fiery screech's were almost normal now, even though the team had been together for a few hours. Meema smiled at the two's bickering, they would make good friends eventually, as they were so alike.
And then in no time they were back on the road to Gustella. But still Edric would not be pleased. He was scratched and dirty and there were small twigs and leaves caught in his hair and on his person. Meema quickly set to cleaning him up with her free hand, the other still holding tightly to a now snoring Adir, and for once, Edric did not protest.
She paused only when she heard a stomping further back on the road. Edric adjusted his crooked glasses to see a large silver bird trudging down the road, carrying quite a few passengers. One of them looked familiar, and then the realization hit Edric. It was the girl he had been at the lab with earlier. Great. And Meema seemed intent on checking out the oncoming group, much to Edric's dismay. Double great.

"More like an egg hunt. Hide and seek the players can move around, the Eggs can't. Well normally they don't. I did participate in one where the egg hatched and and the baby hid in the grass."
Scarlet started to growl softly. She was glaring at something that was coming up behind them. When Jack saw who it was she glared. She had hoped that they wouldn't meet up again.

Crescendo chuckled at her comparison as Skarmory approached Edric, stopping in front of Meema. The metal bird nodded at the kangaskhan and warbled softly at her.
"Skar." Hello. He said to her, bobbing his head. Crescendo turned around to see who Skarmory was talking to and saw Edric, giving a small smile toward him.
"Hi there. My name is Crescendo. My skarmory seems pretty interested in that Kangaskhan of yours." He said, oblivious to Jack and Edric's previous quarrel.

Meema took immediate delight from the polite Skarmory before her. She took a moment to bow slightly in greeting before grumbling contently.
"Khan. Kangas?" Hello. How do you do? She replied pleasantly.
Edric eyed both the Skarmory and Crescendo warily, wondering if they would be as annoying as... as... well the girl had been earlier. Having been in such a foul mood, Edric had never even bothered to learn her name.
"It appears so," he finally drawled out, not knowing what else to say.

Jack took Scarlet off her head and held her in her arms deciding to ignore him. Crimson though greeted the Kangaskhan like an old friend. He even jumped down to talk to her.
"Zan Zan!" Hi again! He then looked over her trainer. "Zan Zangoose." Your trainers hair needs work."Goo Zan. Za Za Angoose."take my trainers hair for example. Soft silky and not one leaf or twig in it."

Meema could not help but chuckle at Crimson's enthusiastic observations, but she did feel the need to explain on Edric's behalf. "Kangaskhan, khan." Well the poor dear just trampled around quite a bit. We were looking for this one! She raised Adir ever so lightly, trying her best to make sure the Larvitar did not stir.
Edric inhaled sharply and began to tap his foot impatiently, hoping Meema would get the idea. No such luck. She continued to chatter on with the other pokemon, probably like some old gossip. Exhaling, he crossed his arms and look to the other trainers wondering if they were going to be taking off at any point in time. Neither made any motion to do so, so Edric finally gave in and decided to introduce himself.
"The name is Edric Pryor. It's a pleasure," he said, not making eye contact with either Crescendo or Jack.

Oh no it's that guy again.Jack was tempted to throw something. She took comfort in the fact that although he no longer looked as green as he did in the lab, he did look more then a little haggard. While she was still fresh neat and more than capable of walking the rest of the way to Gustella. And she had gotten a ride too. that made her feel a little smug.
Crescendo gave her a look that made it clear that it was her turn to introduce herself. Through gritted teeth she practically growled "Hello Edric."
