Legend tells of a young boy who was told by his family and village to stay away from the Abyss of Legend. He was a defiant young lad, and did not believe his elders' stories about the Abyss harboring the departed souls of people and pokemon, good and evil, alike.
The boy was playing on the peaceful fields near the abyss when the soul of a girl appeared before him. She asked him to play a game with her and the delighted young lad agreed, following her towards the chasm. As they walked, an absol appeared before him and tried to warn him of the danger, but the boy, fearing the Disaster Pokemon, fled from it. When he was close enough to the edge, the girl smiled wickedly and pushed the boy, and he fell into the abyss. His screams sounded from the chasm, though they were drowned out by the laughter of the girl.
Distraught by its failure in protecting one so young, Absol howled in anguish. It didn't know what to do! It walked to the edge of the Abyss and despite the girls laughter, it could still hear the boys screams! Staring sternly into the chasm, Absol knew what it had to do. Its eyes glowed and the absol summoned all of its power, and a bright light engulfed it. From its sides, two limbs erupted, growing larger and larger. Soon the long limbs shed their fur, replacing it with feathers, and the glow faded away. Standing proudly, absol stretched its newly grown wings and it leaned down, getting ready to spring into action.
Before it could move, the girl behind Absol, who had watched the transformation with indignant anger, launched herself at the absol. How dare it interfere with her fun!? Absol growled and dodged out of the way in the nick of time. Raising its wings, Absol prepared to use its new powers. The wings glowed along with its horn just as the girl rushed forward. Absol pushed its wings together in front of it and brought its horn to the wingtips, sending out a spiraling black and white energy beam. The girl screamed as the beam struck her, blasting her into the abyss.
It did not have much time to lose, the absol flexed its wings once more and dove into the abyss, crying out for the boy. Soon enough, the boy called back and the absol rushed toward him, embracing him in its front paws. Absol quickly stopped its fall and turned around, rushing to the top of the abyss. Behind it, an evil violet energy pursued, determined not to lose its newest resident. The boy saw the red energy and began to cry, burying his face into the absols chest and begging it not to let him go. With the frightened child in its arms, Absol pumped its mighty wings, determined not to let the abyss take them. With everything it had, the absol shot past the edge of the abyss, the pursuing energy screamed in anguish, reluctantly returning to the bottom of the endless chasm.
By this time, the village had grown worried for the boy and came to the abyss to find him. They saw absol rise up from the chasm with the boy clutched to its chest, and broke out into a cheer as the exhausted pokemon descended back to the earth. It landed uneasily in front of the villagers, releasing the boy. His parents rushed forward and hugged their child tightly, crying in relief at his safety. Absol looked on at the happy family and gave a smile, knowing it did a good thing. Absol smiled as the boy it rescued approached, hugging it tightly. He spoke four words, and four words only.
"My hero, my angel." He said. The villagers cheered once more and parted as their grand elder, the oldest and wisest person of them all, approached the absol. With a smile, she petted its shoulder and turned to the villagers. She declared that because of the absol's bravery in the face of danger, they would no longer fear this creature. No longer would it be known as Absol, bringer of disaster and strife. From this day forward, the absol would be known as Angel Absol, protector of life and innocence.
The villagers soon dispersed, returning to their homes, but the absol, now Angel Absol, knew it's job was not quite finished. There would be others who would disrespect the abyss, and would be taken away if not protected. Angel Absol knew it couldn't live forever, and called its friends, a group of Ghost pokemon. Approaching their leader Dusknoir, Angel Absol begged him to move his colony to the abyss so that they may protect the living.
Dusknoir agreed to the Angel Absol's request, and Absol departed into the chasm to guard the spirits within. To this day Dusknoir and his minions still guard the Abyss of Legend. Even though it was accepted by the villagers, Angel Absol was never seen again, though they knew it was still watching over them.
So remember this: respect the Abyss and the dearly departed. And if you find yourself in extreme danger and no one else can help, maybe YOU will encounter the Angel Absol and witness its mighty power, all for the sake of protecting your soul.
And now, on this day of remembrance, the Angels have returned. They have heard your prayers and have seen your obedience towards Basile's request, and they wish to loan you their power for the sake of Mercy and Benevolence.
