Soft, steady footsteps came to a needed stop in front of a rather impressive looking gray establishment. It had been a long walk for Navir. His his clothes were shabby and worn already though, the journey to Dust Town having little drastic effect on them.
The young man exhaled, gently brushing stray hairs from his eyes. There were faint rings under both, hinting at Navir's constant fatigue.
"This is the place."
His voice was dreamy and mild, fitting his quiet appearance. The only thing contradicting his collected aura was his oddly pink eyes. They would squint with pain every so often, but as quick as the vision was there it would vanish, Navir able to quiet the constant, droning hums of the thoughts of others lingering in his head.
Gently brushing the door open, Navir took a few small steps inside the lab, surveying the area for someone in charge.

She hadn't been this busy in a while. The Professor's hair was askew and frizzed thanks to her hand almost constantly running through it, eyes peering over her glasses at the various screens above and around her desk. Whatever project she was doing was certainly... time consuming. Or at least, it seemed that way when she turned to look at whoever it was that opened the door to the lab - the dark circles under her eyes and Navir's almost matched. Blinking twice at the unusual fellow, the woman sighed and slumped back in her chair, pivoting side to side for a few moments.
"I'll be with you soon~ just need a few more minutes."
Her tone was unusually soft and kind despite her appearance; anyone that frazzled would have normally sounded a bit more stressed, hm? Even though she was slumped back, her fingers flurried over the keys to her computer like a pro, eyes never moving from the screen as she watched her log, occasionally having to backspace and rephrase whatever it was that she'd originally typed. She'd honestly sort of forgotten about Navir when she sighed and leaned forward to stretch, but after catching a glimpse of him from the corner of her eyes, she finally stood and headed to a satchel near the podium she traditionally handed out starters from.
"Sorry about that. Now, let's jump right into this, shall we? Good, cause the faster this goes, the sooner I'll be able to type a bit more, save my document, and then take a nap. Arceus knows I haven't been getting enough sleep lately." Without any further hesitation, the Professor plucked nine pokeballs from the bag, releasing six of them onto the small stage nearby and keeping the other three on the podium. "We have six starters here, courtesy of my good friend, and three mystery balls. Trainers may choose only one pokemon, however, coordinators and breeders are allowed to take two this year. Everyone is limited to one mystery ball."
With that she stepped back, preparing the items and other equipment as she allowed Navir to choose.

Navir took a moment to observe the laboratory as Professor Conifer finished what she was doing, his weary eyes wandering about every nook and cranny of the large room. He was impressed by the size of the building, and how that, despite the scattered papers and items about the room, it still seemed very organized in it's own way. Was the professor here by herself? If so it was no wonder she was tired. Navir was impressed she was still up and running currently, she seemed quite exhausted.
Navir smiled softly when the Professor finally addressed him again in an apologetic manner. "It's no problem. I didn't mind the wait." Heeding her wishes to be quick about his choices, Navir glanced to the pokemon, trying to be as curious as possible. Sighing, he momentarily deconstructed some of the walls surrounded his mind, attempting to carefully pick up on the thoughts of the pokemon.
Flinching as a rush of flashing thoughts and emotions flooded into his mind, Navir gasped slightly in surprise. He clamped his mind back shut as best he could, and tried to regain his tired composure.
Ultimately, he looked to the Dratini. There was something elegant about it, and it might eventually catch the attention of others, aiding him in his quest to find the person he was looking for. Patting the snake-like pokemon in the head tentatively, he glanced to Professor Conifer. "I'd like this one please... and a mystery ball."
Navir felt bad not choosing one of the other five pokemon gazing up at him expectantly, honestly. But in the brief moment he had opened his mind, he had heard something intriguing from one of the mystery balls, that he was sure of. He reached for the one on the left, and upon touching the pokeball he was sure it had been that one. He clicked the ball's release, squinting his eyes at the painfully red flash that followed.

The woman smiled happily as she listened to the boy talk everything over, glancing to the side just in time to see what emerged from the purple mystery ball. Strong feelings, was that it? Well the pokemon certainly seemed to have them as she looked up at the coordinator with big eyes, cheeks puffing out in disappointment. It seemed to rage at the fact that she had to be with someone like Navir, her face scrunching up as her little arms flailed about. That... was the angriest Igglybuff Professor Conifer had ever seen.
"Have fun with that. Bet she'll..." and then, before she could continue, the little pink pokemon demanded attention. Skipping onto the stage where the other starters were and shoving them away, she began to sing. However, what came out weren't the usual cutely notes that her kind were known for, but a terrible screeching racket. Covering her ears and looking at Navir with squinted eyes, she tried to relay the rest of her information.
"SHE'S COMPLETELY TONE DEAF, IT SEEMS! GO AHEAD AND CHOOSE YOUR POKEDEX AND THEN TAKE HER OUTSIDE!"

Navir's eyes nearly bugged out of his head in shock as the small, pink ball of sass took her stage. No wonder he had 'heard' the Igglybuff from inside her pokeball. Her thoughts must have been just as obnoxiously loud as the racket she was making now. He clamped his hands tightly over his ears, trying to think of a way to get the thing to silence itself as Professor Conifer shouted instructions over the noise.
Nodding in a fairly animated fashion to make sure the Professor knew he understood, Navir began carefully shoving supplies into the bag that appeared to also act as a belt. He grabbed the purple pokedex merely because it was the one closest to him, and then braced himself for trying to subdue the screeching Igglybuff.
He was almost immediately met with rejection. The pink pokemon tried to use her flailing arms to push away Navir's outstretched hands, and squirmed immensely when he managed to catch her. The Dratini, thankfully, allowed himself to be scooped up without a sound, although he did squirm slightly at Navir's touch. As he exited the laboratory Navir tried his best to give his thanks to the professor.
Navir set both pokemon down as soon as he could, as clearly neither wanted to be carried by him. He decided to let them collect themselves as he knelt to do the same. His bag clipped snugly around his waist, and fit well under his over sized sweater. Glancing to his new pokemon, he began to debate the idea of giving them names. He decided yes. Everyone needed a name. Sometimes that's all you had.
"Hello." He addressed both pokemon softly. Igglybuff huffed, her cheeks puffing out as she spun away from him. Dratini merely gazed quietly back up at Navir. "It's a pleasure... Arthur." Navir recalled the name of a king he had once read about, in a story filled with magic and adventure. He had always enjoyed reading, is one of the few pleasure he had in life.
Continuing his theme of novel-related names, Navir proceeded to dub the Igglybuff 'Hufflepuff." The diva seemed completely distraught with such an ungracious name, and the corner's of Navir's mouth flinched slightly upwards for a moment as she stomped around in protest.
Returning both pokemon, Navir stood. He supposed he should head for route 801 now, or that's what he was expected to do anyways. And he would have had there not been a fluttering sound only a moment later. Navir gasped and took a step backwards as a large, black pokemon with wings landed lightly before him. The Coordinator recognized the pokemon as an Angel Absol, as he was familiar with its mythology. Never had he believed they were real, let alone he'd see one.
Something implored him to open his mind, so he did so. The black pokemon's mind was much more collected than he had expected, and he could make out basic words among the pokemon's feelings Hello. Navir blinked and dug further. Fai. The boy attributed this next word with the creature's name. Aid. Navir's eyes went wide again at the last word he could find in the Angel Absol's mind.
"You want to help me?" he murmured, thinking aloud. The Angel Absol, or rather Fai, seemed to hear Navir because he let out a low bark and nodded when Navir finished.
"Well alright then..." Navir took a few cautious steps forward, Fai making no inclination to move. The Angel Absol merely followed Navir with his eyes. When he was a considerably distance ahead of the pokemon it finally decided to move, outstretching it's long, beautiful wings and taking casually to the sky, hovering over it's new trainer from above.
"Here we go, I suppose."
