Thump. Thump. Thump.
That was her feet on the pavement. That was all. Nothing more, nothing less. After the ride in the plane here, everything was loud. Perhaps she should pop her ears...
ThumpThump.
Okay, that wasn't her feet. No one could move their feet that swiftly. Stuff and bother. Her ears were ringing then, after the long plane ride. Ugh, no, it was getting louder, and louder, and louder, vibrating through her entire body as she moved, ever increasing as she got closer to the inevitable door that would begin her life anew.
ThumpThump.
Closer.
ThumpThump.
Closer....
ThumpThump. ThumpThump. ThumpThump.
Finally she was in front of the door, and the sound was so deafening she couldn't even hear the knock on the door, simply saw her hand move of it's own accord, slowly rising and moving, her knuckles rapping on the wood as if they had a mind of her own.
Hopefully the thudding of her heart wasn't loud enough for anyone else to hear. Now THAT would be embarrassing.

Having dozed off from her earlier, rather exhausting encounter with Celeste and Sawyer, Professor Conifer did not here the knock at first. It was only when the door blew open that Professor Conifer was startled awake. Muttering to herself, she saw Ranny standing behind a young woman. Snorting and gently pushing Lesa out of her way, Ranny walked into the lab and laid down in front of Conifer, pulling a sack out of her mane. setting it in front of the podium, the suicune barked and ran out of the lab, her mission complete. Professor Conifer adjusted her shoulders until she heard a small pop, then she smiled at the newcomer. "Come in come in! My name is Professor Conifer. I assume you are here for a pokemon?" She asked, smiling warmly at the girl. "It seems my friend has sent me more starter pokemon, you`ll have a wide selection." She said, opening the bag and setting 6 pokeballs in a circle on the podium and 3 in the middle. She pushed the buttons on the 6 pokeballs in the ring, revealing the six starters: "I know you don't want me to go on that whole "Welcome to the world of pokemon" spiel, so let's get right to the fun part. You are a breeder, correct? Go ahead and pick two pokemon. These 6 are all compatible with each other for breeding, though as for the three pokeballs there," She said, pointing to the unopened balls on the podium. "Those pokemon were bred to impress upon the first person to open the pokeball, so once you take one and open it, it's yours. As a result I cannot guarantee what the pokemon inside will be. It could be anything from a Magikarp to an Arceus. So, which will you choose?" She asked, stepping back so Lesa could make her choices.

A Suicune. Yipes. Lesa stared at the creature as it stopped, drapped, and then rolled right back out. A suicune. A SUICUNE. And it had just been next to her! Oh, holy dragonite, she wished vehemently that she could have grabbed a picture of it. Her siblings would have died from jealousy. Oh, well. Shaking herself mentally, the girl-nearly-woman turned to the professor and smiled, hoping her nervousness wasn't as apparent as it was in her stomach.
"Yes, ma'am, a breeder is what I am. Or what I hope to be at any rate." She smiled again and watched as, one by one, the pokeballs opened and spilled their contents. Of course, one in particular made her squeal. "A cyndaquil!" Lesa couldn't stop herself from reaching out to the little fire type, grinning wide and large, her nervousness forgotten. "I adore cyndaquil! Won't you come with me, little one?" It may have seemed a little silly to ask if a pokemon wanted to go with a trainer, but she'd been around them long enough to know that pokemon were as individual as people, and she'd hate to choose one who did not like her.
As she waited for a response, Lesa looked around at the others. While some were good choices, none of them reflected her, and none caught her attention. What was it that the professor had said about the other three? They were meant to impress upon the first one who opened their balls? so that was why she hadn't opened and released them as she had the others. Well then. Since none of the released pokemon were catching her fancy, she reached out and gently touched the ball in the middle. "If I may take this one with me?" Lesa asked, glancing up at the professor for permission before picking it up.

The Cyndaquil just stared at Lesa as she asked him if he wanted to come with her. What sort of a question was that to ask a starter pokemon. The Cyndaquil jumped and leapt onto her shoulder, nudging the side of her head with his. "Daquil!" It replied, accepting her offer. Professor Conifer smiled and was about to answer Lesa when the pokeball decided to speak for itself. It opened up and a white light came out, a small form taking shape on the podium. Large ears, soft, fluffy fur, and adorable black eyes stared at Lesa for a moment. The pokemon tilted it's head at her before smiling. "I pick you! You wanna give me a name or no?" Said the small fox, much to Professor Conifer's shock. "Sweet Arceus, my friend is a more talented breeder than I thought, raising a pokemon capable of human speech." She muttered, blinking over and over at the trio. Once more Lesa simply stared. She'd been scratching the cyndaquil gently, smiling as it accepted her offer to come with her, when the second pokeball decided to reveal it's contents to the world. Seeing the eevee, the girl's eyes had widened. Eevee's were rare! And so sought after it was beyond impossible to find one. And here one was, popping out of a pokeball to look at her. Of course, when it spoke... well. You could have knocked the breeder over with a feather, had you been close enough to do so. And to top everything off the little one was a female! From what she'd heard, female eevees... well they weren't a dime a dozen, that was for sure. And this one was looking at her asking if she wanted to name it!
For several seconds she simply stared at the little one, unable to say anything. She blinked, and the cyndaquil looked over his new trainer's shoulder to watch his new companion. Oh goody... one could almost see the pokemon roll his eyes. That one was going to cause trouble, he just knew it. Honestly, look at Lesa! She couldn't even get over herself long enough to answer a simple question. Bah. He nudged the girl with his nose. Hello, wake up now.
Lesa shook her head to get over her surprise. "Name... Name... Yes! Yes, of course! I'll call you Aunia, if that suits you." The eevee nodded her head happily. "And you Kale, I think?" she added, looking at the cyndaquil. He simply inclined his head. This was amazing! She scooped up her two new pokemon and hugged them tight, loving them beyond measure as soon as she laid eyes upon them.
"Thank you so much Professor Conifer!"

Professor Conifer smiled warmly at Lesa as she moved to a cabinet, pulling out two bags and two boxes. Setting the bags down in front of the podium and one of the boxes in front of the, she reached into the second box and set down some objects on a desk. "You are very welcome. Now then, pick your bag and pokedex style and set up your inventory. You`ll excuse me if I don't give you pokeballs, the Varaia region doesn't want newbie breeders to catch pokemon. You`ll get more by finding the breeding centers and passing their tests." She said, gesturing to the cluster of items. Pokedex: Bags: or Inventory: X5 X5 x3 x2 x3

Lesa simply nodded as the professor explained the lack of pokeballs. She'd talked to a few breeders or hopefuls along the way, and had expected as much. A hard road, full of riddles and waits for eggs to become friends, but that was alright. Often the things you waited the longest for were the most rewarding. So she simply picked up the over-the shoulder bag style, the box of supplies, and the emerald green pokedex. The girl quickly packed her bag, with the supplies offered, smiling gratefully at the objects as she placed each inside, and nodded once more. "Thank you again, Professor. One day I hope to be like you. Or your friend, the one with the suicune. I want to provide new hopefuls with their first pokemon one day, just like these you have here. I look forward to it." She knew she was rambling, but she couldn't seem to help herself as she reached for the two pokeballs that had contained Kale and Aunia. Lesa had left out the pokedex, no quite sure if the professor had any other need for it before she went on her way.
So she stood there, eevee in her arms and cyndaquil on her shoulder, two pokeballs on her belt, bag over her shoulder, and pokedex in hand, looking at the woman expectantly. It was time to begin her journey.
