Wendy may have felt proud for the boy before, but when she rushed out onto the battlefield to catch her Tranquil as he plummeted to the ground, she thought nothing but feelings of revenge. "You did an amazing job. Time to take a break and earn some well-needed rest" she told the bird, recalling him to his pokeball.
"Alright, Yuki. This is getting serious - many trainers don't make it past my Tranquil" Wendy announced, looking over to him once she returned to her spot with a fiery gaze. "It's time to bring in the start of the show now." Looking upward, the woman let out a shrill whistle, a loud caw sounding from some trees nearby. In a moment's time, a large Honchcrow was perched upon her arm, glaring intimidatingly towards their opponents. "Time for you to fly, Honchcrow!"
Once the black avian took to the air again, Wendy saluted the boy and gave a final nod. "This is it, one against one. How will it end for our young trainer?" Diamante: 34/36 Honchcrow: 30/30 |

Yuki's face turned from a smile into a smirk. He was confident in Diamante's ability to win. He looked to the Honchkrow, not intimidated in the slightest. "Alright Diamante, we can do this, Use Icy Wind!"
Diamante began to raise herself up just a little bit, extending her wing to cause the air to chill and whip about. The freezing wind rushed around Honchkrow..
[RESULT: 0]
TWANG! Blocked! Diamante roared in frustration as the Honchkrow didn't take damage. She had to win this! Yuki kept his cool anyway. "Don't freak out Diamante, we're still doing fairly well."

Without a single word from her trainer, Honchcrow flapped her wings as soon as she noticed the Kyurem begin her attack, spiraling upwards and curling her wings tighlty around herself. When the shards came her way, the bird quickly burst her wings open, thus deflecting the ice. She cawed mockingly at the dragon and glided down to a more comfortable level.
"Honchcrow, stop that. We're not going to mock them" Wendy scolded. "Now, Dark Pulse!"
Smiling, the pokemon's eyes widened, a dark black ring reverberating from her body out towards Diamante.

Diamante braced herself against the blow, roaring at her opponent. Yuki smirked and thought to Diamante. "We've got this covered, right buddy? The Kyurem snorted in reply.
Yuki pointed at Honchkrow and announced his next move. "Diamante, Use Ice Shard!" Diamante chilled the air in front of her into a pointed shard of ice. She flung it at Honchkrow..
[RESULT: 4]

Shwiing! It hit, but not very hard. Diamante was glad she'd managed to land a hit this time. Yuki was confident in his pokemon's ability.

Con, after beating the challenge at the breeding Center, had returned to the gym to see how Yuki was doing in his gym battle. In total honesty, he wasn’t sure how the younger boy was going to do when he left, and he had after all returned without Sterling. They had done a bit of talking and decided they were going to part ways, leaving Con and Yuki to travel with only each other for the time being. Con sighed as he walked through the doors.
Yuki was on the battlefield, Diamante out in front of him, battling a Honchkrow, a Pokemon which the breeder had liked a lot as a child, just like most flying types.
Crescendo was casually resting atop of his shoulder, cooing slightly as they came to rest a bit away from where the fighting was waking place. At least he hadn’t missed everything. Though, at a time like this the young man wasn’t even sure what to say. So instead, he decided to play the silent support. He thought about saying he wouldn’t cook if Yuki didn’t win, but that was plain mean.

"Hoooonch!" the bird squawked, shaking her head and snorting in distaste at the icy dragon. Wendy tilted her head, trying to think of what to have her pokemon do next. Dark Pulse had worked pretty well, but... if she tried to hit the Kyurem's side again, it might be another critical hit.
"Aerial Ace, go Honchy!" Wendy commanded, the huge crow more than eager to oblige, spiraling down towards Diamante.

Yuki thought that it was odd Wendy hadn't gone for Diamante's weak side. Was she going easy on him? He shrugged and pointed at Honchkrow. "Use Ice Shard again!"
Diamante gave an affirming nod and froze the air in front of her again. She flung the shard at Honchkrow..

Bam! Another light hit. No matter. Small progress was still progress.

Going easy on him? No, never! Wendy was far too cocky and full of herself to do that, and the woman was more than willing to admit that too. As her Honchkrow snickered above Diamante, hovering and diving in to simply annoy the dragon, the Leader fired another command.
"This is hardly over, Yuki! Dark Pulse again, to her weak side like last time!" Cawing loudly, the black bird dove with alarming speed at the dragon, her eyes closing as she prepared for impact.

Yuki growled as he let his guard down. Now he was starting to feel the pressure. If Diamante failed here..No! He wouldn't think like that! "Use Icy Wind!"
Diamante roared and extended her wing to whip the air about in the arena. Hopefully this would do some damage..

Honchcrow flailed in the air before she was sent back down towards Diamante via Wendy's command, her brow furrowed as she noticed how quickly the tables were turning.

Yuki could see that Diamante was struggling. His heart went out to her. She had battled so hard! "Use Sheer Cold!" She did a double take at her trainer.
She roared and lowered her head, chilling the air around the arena..

BAM! Frozen solid! Finally, Sheer Cold had hit! Diamante looked rather proud of herself. This fight was definitely turning in her favor!

Well.
That was unfortunate.
Wendy's temper flared and she stomped the ground once she saw her Honchkrow completely frozen, sighing and hanging her head in defeat. "This sucks pokeballs, but... I'm gonna have to forfeit." She pulled forth the raven's capsule and withdrew her, sighing and ruffling her hair in shame. There was nothing else she could have done, and if she really thought about it, this was better than having her pokemon being honestly defeated by the Kyurem.
"Good battle, Yuki! You've won." She jammed her hand in her pocket and pulled out a shiny badge and two TMs, offering them to the boy. "As a result, I present you with the Float Badge and one of these TMs!"

Yuki smiled brightly. The battle was finally over. "You did great, Diamante. Return now." He recalled the dragon into her pokeball, and approached the gym leader.
He bowed before taking his badge. "It was a good battle. I think I will take the Aerial Ace TM. It seems like a wicked good move to have." He smiled and then turned to the entrance to see Con. He gave a thumbs up and the pair walked outside.

Con watched as Yuki’s battle finally came to a close, smiling as his friend had proved his worth and won. Now that it was safe, Con stepped closer, stopping at Yuki’s side. He nodded as he looked at the badge and then showed him his Cherish Ball. He then followed him out of the gym.
