"...starts with just one."
Nadia rolled her eyes as Aidan rambled on about some philosophical quip he had heard from some stranger on the street a few days ago. Turning her attention back to her bed she continued to shove what she deemed essential to their upcoming journey into the rucksack sprawled atop her mattress.
"And then this little-"
"AIDAN."
"Yeah?"
Nadia huffed as she threw the now full bag over her shoulder. "Are you ready to go?"
The boy's entire face lit up immediately as he leaped to his feet. He gave the room a quick once over before grabbing only his mp3 player. "Yeah, I'm set!"
The twins made their way to Professor Conifer's lab, doing their best to keep their excitement in check. They had both been waiting quite some time for this day and neither wanted to ruin it. In no time at all they were at the lab, Aidan knocking on the building's door as Nadia beamed behind him.

Hearing a knock on her door, Professor Conifer shuffled away from one of the various machines in her lab and began to set things up. From her hidden camera above the door she could see the image of not one, but two trainers waiting to be let in, their excitement clear on one of the black and white monitors. Chuckling, she got everything ready early, calling out to the door to let the visitors know she was working.
"Just a second! This here, and this here..." she mumbled, assembling the mystery balls and items and whatnot. When the starters were released and in a line, she went to the door herself and opened it, greeting the two with a smile.
"Welcome! Right this way..." she began, looking the two over once the door was closed and she'd turned around. "Now. I'm sure you two don't want to hear everything technical, so I'll cut right to the chase. We have the starters here" she began, waving to the six released pokemon, "and the mystery balls. Each person may only choose one mystery pokeball this time around, and you could be presented with anything from a Caterpie to a Zapdos. Trainers may choose one pokemon, and breeders and coordinators may choose two."
Pausing, Conifer stepped aside, eager to see who got what. "Take your time!"

The twins tried their best to maintain composure when Professor Conifer answered the door, they really did. But 19 years of pent up excitement decided to explode all at once and suddenly it was like Aidan and Nadia were 10 and seeing pokemon for the very first time. They shoved past each other into the lab, 'oooing' and 'aahing' at every little flashing computer screen and various pokemon breeding tool.
When the siblings caught sight of the six released pokemon they almost lost themselves completely. They gave as much attention possible to Professor Conifer as she explained the gist of things and both gave her a toothy grin in response.
Aidan elbowed Nadia when the woman finished. "Didja hear that? I get two pokemon."
Nadia scoffed, pushing her brother's arm away as he sniggered playfully. "Yeah but whatever I pick is gonna rock ten times more then your pokemon." It was her turn to laugh when he stuck out his tongue in response. Not wanting to waste anymore time, Nadia turned her full attention to the pokemon, deciding ladies chose first. For some reason she could not take her eyes off of the funny looking little orange pokemon, whose head appeared to be far to big for it's body. Trapinch, she thought to herself. I think that's what it's called. "Hey there cutie!" she approached the pokemon carefully, then glanced back to the Professor. "Can I have this one?"
"And I'd love this little guy!" Aidan exclaimed, the Oshawott scooped up in his arms. "And can I have a mystery pokeball Professor?"
"Oo~ Taking a risk there bro?" winked Nadia.
Aidan ignored his sister for once and thanked the proffesor when she handed him the pokeball. Only just containing his glee he tossed the mystery ball into the air, squinting only slightly at the flash of red that lit the room.

"Excellent!" Professor Conifer said, beaming. "Now, let's see what you get out of this mystery ball, Aidan." From the light came a rather large form, smoke surrounding it as the pokemon stomped and let loose a happy cry.
"Torkoal!" he bellowed, instantly rushing over to the lad and gently pushing him down so he could... sit on his legs? The Professor tilted her head and chuckled, shaking it afterward.
"He's gonna be a handful, isn't he? Now. Each of you choose which bag style you would like, and what color Pokedex. Then you may pick a box of items and be on your way!"

Aidan hit the ground with a thud, his laughter resounding off of the rooms walls. "Hey, HEY , ya big lug get off of me! You're kinda heavy!" As he gently pushed the pokemon off of himself, Aidan couldn't help but give the Torkoal an affectionate rub on the head. "It seems so Professor!" He replied, still chuckling. "Welcome to the family I guess!" He paused in thought as he studied the Torkoal a moment. "Ty!" He turned to his new Oshawott, scooping her up to gently tickle her chest. "And you too Meri!" he smiled.
"Well this is Feray!" interrupted Nadia proudly, her Trapinch hanging from her arms. "She's gonna be the fiercest thing you ever saw!" Nadia finished winking.
Aidan just grinned choosing an orange pokedex and single strap backpack from Professor Conifer. Nadia followed suit, choosing a black pokedex and a messenger bag. Both graciously took a box of items and packed everything into their new bags.
"I think that's it..." began Nadia, shoving her last pokeball into her bag as she reached down to pick up her new partner pokemon.
"Thank you for everything," added Aidan as Meri adjusted onto his shoulder. "We really appreciate it!"
Without much further ado the Hollands twins waved their goodbyes to Professor Conifer and headed for the door, ready for the start of their pokemon journey.
