So, Basile and I were talking. We need to do a LOT of revamping of the site. The Ad needs to be remade, several game mechanics are busted, and everything is disorganized in general.
As we spoke about how best to go about this, Basile and I have decided that VS is only going to use one main skin, since it's annoying to pick through the headers and footers to add skins *which we have to do because of the anti-tiling code we have in place for some of the skins*. While she was browsing Caution 2.0, she kept finding a LOT of neat skins that are IF exclusive, and they are freaking beautiful. That is when site-moving came up in the conversation.
Now, don't get me wrong. I am well aware that we don't HAVE to have multiple skins on a ProBoards site, but that's not the only reason I`m considering it. I have thought about doing this for a long time for the following reasons:
1. For those who never joined Vulnera Weyr, or been apart of an IF site in general, IF has a much nicer Money Code than PB does, and it doesn't need Staff at all to work. After the code is installed, members can send money to each other and stuff themselves. I have to be honest, i hate having to jump around profiles to add/subtract money.
2. I can't code to save my life, Basile is the master of coding. She hates PB's control panel and is much more familiar with IF's control panel. I only chose PB when I made VS because of the fact that you can have multiple skins *which didn't work out in the endoops* and because I was more familiar with PB's control panel and skin creation. At the time, I never expected Basile to join VS during the initial setup and beta-testing, and thought I was gonna run it on my own, so I wanted to go with something I knew inside and out. Thank god she did though, because her coding skills and ability to track down what codes we needed is awesome. I was so stupid back then XD
3. Color-Coding is much simpler on IF, as there is one less step to doing color blends than it is on PB. Pretty much every color-coding site uses the following format in their codes:
IF, Zetaboards, and pretty much every other forums out there uses this format, except one. While similar, PB uses this:
It's funny how one little symbol can mean the difference between color and no color. If you put the # after the = here, the code is nulled and your text takes the color of whatever is the default text color, meaning there IS no color. On color-fading sites, there are a TON of #s depending on the size of the post, and therefore you have to copy it, paste it into a word program on your computer and use ctl + F to get rid of it. To people who want to get posting done ASAP like me, this is annoying and tedious.
If we switched to IF, we could have more distinct colors in telepathic pokemon, and you guys have one more tool to use for your pretty trackers and stuff.
4. IF has a better grouping system, and with it, we can make group-exclusive sections on the forums. No passwords needed for Team Necro users to get into the Team Necro Base! We tried, and failed, to do that here on PB, and as such rely on passwords so that you guys can't get into admin-only areas. What a fun adventure that has been >.<
5. IF has an IP-Ban system, PB does not.
6. IF has a better Mass-Mail system for emailing than PB, again, it can be group-exclusive *though the drawback is that staff can only send one mass email every 5 days*.
7. No more asking admins to add your favorite pic to the avatar list! IF's avatar system allows staff to adjust the perimeters of forum avatars.
8. Also, no more needing to link to your trackers! Just like with avatars, staff on IF can set a signature limit to allow for more text in sigs. You can link your characters directly in your sigs and STILL make them look pretty. You can of course, still link to your trackers if you want to, but it would no longer be necessary if you are an organized fashionista like Basile.
9. Admins can aid users in certain issues directly. IF has a tool that allows us to access user accounts so that if you lose a password or misformatted something, we can take a look at it ourselves. Neither I, nor any staff member under me, would ever abuse this power, so rest easy
And last, but certainly not least....
10. NO MORE BEAR @ttacks!
In the two year run that Vulnera had prior to its current Hiatus, I recall it only going down once. VS on the other hand? COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. PB has gone down more times than I can count, and when it isn't down completely, it is soo painfully slow and never loads right. IF DOES have a bit of a lag, but they rarely go down completely.
There are many other good reasons why I would put VS on InvisionFree instead of ProBoards, and now that I think about it, I shouldn't have gone back to using PB to begin with.
Ultimately, it is up to me and Basile whether we go with a move or not, but I want to know your personal feelings, as, I am sure you can imagine, this would be a BIG change for you, the members. You'd have to restart travel threads, remake your characters and trackers and PCs, and adjust to the new site in general. However, if we do initiate a move, here is what will affect you immediately:
As soon as you finish an IC thread, you will not be allowed to advance with that character until the move is complete.
All banks will be frozen, meaning you cannot buy or sell any items or otherwise make money. After the move is complete, staff will return accumulated money to you.
You cannot submit any new characters until the move is complete
The Trade Station will be closed during the move, as will the advertising section.
Pokemon will be frozen during the final moving, you will not be allowed to edit their stats, moves or forms
You will be asked to recount your inventories so that you may keep the items you actually have. Failure to comply with this will result in a complete loss of inventory.
Think hard about this you guys, VS has never had a more massive situation than this, and I need ALL of your inputs.
Should we do decide to move, we will need Volunteers to help with the transfer. We will need people who can grab and save the profiles of the Gym Leaders and Elite 4/Topaz *though I think only Topaz has a profile in the pokemon league* as well as people who can help us rebuild the cities in the new forum. Volunteers will be rewarded accordingly.
If you vote for anything other than "I'd rather stay on ProBoards", please send a PM to me if you want to Volunteer. If there is a move, Basile and I will assign tasks.
