Hello, everyone! This is Basile typing and posting this, so you KNOW it's important. I usually leave the announcements to Kitty, because she has a more genial way with the masses, but this is something she doesn't really understand, so. Here I am.
As you all probably know, either from personal experience or hearing about it through others, we've been having some coding problems lately. The most obvious is the profile code being a big brat, but there are several others. Now, usually I would just go in and fix this, but here's the thing. Proboards is going to be going through an 'upgrade'. Right now it's optional, but by the end of the year, every single Proboards site is going to be forced to move up to v5. Now, what that means for us, or more importantly me, is that every. single. code. is going to have to be reworked. Kitty signed on for a 'beta board', as it were, and MOST of our VS workings simply are not compatible with v5.
So. I can go through and TRY to fix the boards once they're upgraded, which if we go this route will happen sooner rather than later. There's no guaranteeing I can fix anything at all. Even the base skin we have right now doesn't work with v5. We don't even know if the battle code will work. All in all, this would probably result in the VS board being down for several days while I try to fix or find new codes for us.
The next option is moving the board. Kitty and I were all for a board overhaul several months back which included a move to Invisionfree, which I like SO MUCH BETTER than Proboards. There are SO many more options. But we encountered some opposition from previous staff members that eventually swayed us into staying put. No, we haven't talked to Spirit or Bayhound yet, neither of them being online when this rather serious problem came up, but we welcome discussion of all VS members here in this thread. Please keep all major comments here, so that we can keep track, but feel free to casually discuss in the chatbox, as well.
This is a very big decision that involves all of us, so we're putting it to you guys. Do we stay here and hope I can get the Proboards fixed with the update? Move to Invisionfree (or Jcink), and get a fresh start, possibly some new blood, as well as a cleaner, more organized board? What are you guys' thoughts? LET ME KNOW! Because if you don't, well. I already have my preference.
