History: Melody started out your average smart little girl. She was always fascinated with anything scientific, and spent most of her time hanging out with the Gym Leader Cliff. She would always be happy to meet the new fossil pokemon that were brought to the Gym.
For her 7th birthday, she was gifted a Sandile by her parents. It was her best friend from the moment they met. It liked to snoop around just as much as she did! They were always getting into trouble, playing around the canyons that surrounded her town. Melody and her Sandile were always together, no matter what.
Then, one fateful day, 7 years later, her Sandile evolved into a Krokorok. She was overjoyed! The newly evolved Pokemon grew a protective streak over his human, always steering her from danger. Shortly after evolving, Melody stared testing her Krokorok's limits. She started pushing him to get strong, so that he could always defend her. Before long, he evolved again. The young girl was very happy about this, because it meant he was even more powerful! It seemed as though nothing would stop them.
It seemed like Melody and Krookodile would be even more trouble for the residents now, and they had to devise a way to stop them. They asked Melody if she would patrol the northern canyon near town, and she agreed. The villagers didn't mention the reason no one ever wanted to patrol the north canyon, there was danger of rockslides. They neglected to inform her to proceed quietly..which was something her Krookodile wasn't capable of. As soon as they reached the canyon, Melody sensed something was up. As soon as her Krookodile came stomping up behind her, several rocks were lodged loose on a bluff above. Melody saw the rocks coming down, and Krookodile pushed her out of the way. Unfortunately for Krookodile, he was buried beneath the cascading boulders. Melody was devastated.
Melody became cross with everyone in the village after that. They had deliberately lead her best friend to his death. She shut herself off, even her parent's couldn't coax her out of it. She had been betrayed by the people she'd lived around all her life. For 5 years she existed as a shell of herself, wondering how things would have been different if Krookodile was still with her. Finally, one night, she ran away from Quakita. She needed to be far far away from the canyon town that had destroyed her life. She stalked by cover of night to Dust Town, to start anew as a Trainer. She had to find a way to bring her precious companion back.
