It wasn't that Beatrice wasn't excited to start her Pokemon journey. Far from it! It was more that she... well...
She needed to be prepared. And that meant cramming every bit of information on Bug Pokemon she could! She holed herself up in her room for three whole days!
Unfortunately, after looking at her computer's calendar on the morning of the fourth day, she realized that she was due to set out two days ago.
Which was why there was now an exhausted-looking girl barreling through the door to Professor Conifer's lab, almost losing her hat in the process.
"Auuuuugh Professor Conifer I'm sorry I'm so late please forgive me I had to make sure I knew everything I was studying I promise please forgive me please!" she said, managing a sentence with almost no punctuation in it whatsoever.

The Professor jumped at Beatrice's antics, rushing over to the girl to help her hold still. "Easy now easy, just calm down. It's perfectly alright dear, you're not 'late', so to speak. I have pkenty of pokemon and pokedexs for you. Usually I`M the one who is late. Don't get so worked up, your journey hasn't even begun yet, hehe." She assured the girl, patting her back before leading her into another room where 6 pokemon played. Conifer gestured to them before she went over to a pitcher, pouring a cold glass of water for the new trainer. "Now, drink this and pick your pokemon. It will be fine. You may choose any one of these six OR one of the 3 mystery pokeballs. The Mystery Pokemon are trained to bond to the first person to open their pokeball so once you reveal one you are stuck with it. Choose wisely." She chirped, handing the glass to Beatrice and stepping aside to let her pick her pokemon.

"Oh..." said Beatrice, looking somewhat dazed. She was probably going to have to take a nap before heading out for real, wasn't she...
She'd waited long enough for this, though. She took a few sips of the water as she pondered her choices. Given the fact that Bug-types were vastly underappreciated, there weren't any ones out playing, which she had expected. But... Trapinch counted! It was basically a Bug that wasn't a Bug-type! On the other hand, though... one of those Mystery Pokemon could be... well, a Scyther! Or a Venipede! Or maybe even a Larvesta!
On the other hand... she could be stuck with a Magikarp or something. Or, even if it was a Bug type, it could be something that would be better to catch along the way, like Caterpie or Weedle. As much as she liked those two, they started out a little weak and it would be better to have some support behind them. Trapinch was pretty solid to begin with, and it had some good evolutions, too... so, yeah. That was the best choice.
"Well, I'm not much of a gambler, so I'll go with Trapinch!"

The Trapinch's eyes seemed to glimmer more at Beatrice's choice as it waddled over to her from the lineup. It stopped once it got to her feet and began to nuzzle her trainer's leg with her huge maw, looking up at her sweetly and opening her mouth. "We're gonna be bestest friends aren't we?" Said the Trapinch in a feminine voice. She went back to nuzzling her new trainer and purred in an awkward, Trapinch way. "I've been here for so long, thanks for picking me! Do you wanna give me a name? It's the least I could do to thank you." She trilled. Pokemon Name: Trapinch Gender: Female Pokemon Personality: Affectionate, Grateful, Loyal Pokemon Ability: Arena Trap Pokemon Health: 24 Pokemon Level: 5 Move Roster: Bite

...eh? That Pokemon was talking, wasn't it...?
Well, everyone knew Pokemon couldn't talk, at least in the same way people could. It must have been her imagination. Anyway, what was probably something along the lines of "Trapinch pinch trap pinch" wasn't too hard to interpret!
"Yeah, this is great! We're going to be the best partners ever-" she started as she enthusiastically keeled down beside her Pokemon, before realizing that her one weakness had been exposed.
...she was really bad at coming up with names...
"Uh... Chomps...?"
