Nick had rested well the night before and his party seemed to be just as energized as he felt. He had healed them all at the pokecenter yesterday and all slept well last night. He and Varoon couldn't decide who would challenge the Gustella Gym first. Some awkward hitting on, frustration, and an Eevee tackle later, they decided to rock/paper/scissor who would go first and unfortunantly Nick lost. Nick really didn't want to be the first one up to bat, as it were.
Varoon would have the distinct advantage Nick wished to have, seeing the gym leader in battle and how she fought. That would have helped Nick out tremendously. He would have a better idea on which pokemon to lead out and which moves may be more effective. He could have developed a nice little strategy. But now? He had absolutely nothing to go on, other than she used flying types and there was a variety of flying types out there in the world of pokemon.
Nick made it to the open field that was the gym. He glanced around before just deciding to call out to this gym leader. "Hello? Gym Leader person? Are you here?" He called out, questioning her location. Nick spotted a house in the distance and made his way over there. He knocked on the door, calling out again. "Hello? Gym Leader?"

The door stayed closed as the two boys waited for the gym leader, and Varoon tilted his head, his little brother on his shoulder while Zacarian sat behind his trainer.
"Perhaps they are not home?" Varoon asked. A sudden screech prompted both teens to look behind them and saw two bird pokemon flying towards them. One was a fearow, with a red bow tied around its neck, and a man perched on its back while the other, a pidgeot, flew by their side, its female trainer astride its neck. When the battlefield came into the birds view, the two pokemon dove towards the ground, pulling up at the last minute while their trainers jumped off. The two people looked at Varoon and Nick with confident grins as they approached.
"Howdy thar. I`m Trevor, I run the Breeding Center in this here town." Said the man.
"And I`m Wendy, the Gym Leader. Today's a special day, the Friends of Feathers Festival." Said the woman. Varoon's eyes glittered as he approached the two, and he brought his hands together.
"A festival? Like, the Fashion, Food, Fun kind with so many hot studs out in the hot sun getting a tan? Where can Varoon sign up?!" Asked the furry. Wendy blinked at him for a moment before Xinari tackled him away, grumbling under his breath.
"Yes well, anyway. As part of the festival, Trevor and I serve as BOTH the Gym Leader and Center Head. The Friends of Feathers Festival is all about harmony with bird pokemon. You know the old saying 'Birds of a Feather flock together'? Same concept. So, since there are two of you and two of us, we're going to have a special match. Both of you, get on one side of the field, it's time for a double-battle." She said as the two got on their side of the field. Wendy and Trevor both whistled, and a Honchkrow and the Fearow from before appeared in front, ready to battle. The referee, wearing a hoothoot costume, got on the sidelines while the challengers took their side. He raised two flags up and began to speak.
"The special battle between Gym Leaders Wendy and Trevor and the Challengers Nick and varoon is about to begin. Each trainer may use only ONE pokemon each, and the match ends when both pokemon on one side are unable to continue. Begin when ready!" He called.

"I guess..." Nick was in the middle of responding to Varoon when he looked up to see two people flying on pokemon. "...not?" he finished, though it ended in a question as he was far too curious about what was going on. Drake looked up in the sky in amazement at the duo before they both landed and introduced themselves. Nick could hardly believe it. So this was the gym leader? She made quite the entrance. So did the other guy as well.
Nick didn't have to say a word to them. In what seemed like a moment, everything was decided. It'd be a double battle with one pokemon per person. The challengers were told to get in their positions, so Nick followed Varoon to the opposing side of the flying type duo. Once they were ready, Varoon had chosen his Zacarian to battle. A Jolteon was an electric type pokemon, good against flying types. Nick thought over his party. He had no distinct advantages. However, any pokemon of his party that he chose wouldn't be at a disadvantage either.
He could have went with his Charmander. Chara's fire type moves could inflict some serious damage. Rayquaza would be a good choice too. He was a powerful legendary. As he was thinking of using Rayquaza, however, Drake squeezed his snake-like body around Nick's neck. It was a clear indication as he called out. "Dratini! Dratini!" Let me battle! Let me battle! Nick knew exactly what the small, serpentine dragon pokemon wanted.
"I'll choose Drake! Go!" he cried out. Drake leaped from his shoulders onto the field next to Zacarian. "Dra! Dra!" he cried out, letting his tag pokemon partner know he was ready. Drake turned his attention to the opposing pokemon in the battle, ready to go. "Let's start this party then, Drake. Use Dragonbreath on that Honchkrow!" Nick ordered. Drake charged forward at the bird then used Dragonbreath as ordered.
[RESULT: 5]
Varoon saw Nick go on the offensive and followed through. "Zacarian, Varoon wants you to go after that Fearow in the meantime. Use Wintervolt if you would?" Zacarian let out a small cry of acknowledgement and went after the Fearow with Wintervolt.

The Honchkrow glared at Drake before Wendy caught onto her energy, clenching her fists.
"Dark Pulse!" She commanded. The Honchkrow readily obeyed, firind a purplish-black beam of circles at the tiny dragon.
[RESULT: 7]
Meanwhile, Screecher chuckled at the Jolteon while Trevor stared analytically at the challengers.
"Battling isn't my thing really, but I`ll do my best. Pursuit!" He commanded. The fearow immediately made a beeline for the Jolteon, who began to run to dodge the attack.
[RESULT: 3]

Drake doubled over backwards as the Dark Pulse hit him. He rolled forward, a little worse for ware but still ready for a fight. "Shrug it off Drake! Dragonbreath again!" Nick shouted out.

"Don't worry about it Zacarian. Try Wintervolt again!"

Cici fumed at the Dratini and without awaiting a command began to flap towards him in an aerial ace, much to the chagrin of her trainer.
[RESULT: 9]
She landed a critical hit, while Trevor's fearow was still rarin to go.
"Alright, try a fury attack!" Trevor commanded. Screecher let out a harsh cry as he flapped towards Zacarian, readying his beak to attack.

Drake was taking a beating from that Honchkrow, but he was still determined to win. Nick bared his teeth, not wanting to either, but it was looking very difficult. "That's okay Drake. Hit Honchkrow with Dragonbreath again!"

The two birds snorted as they regrouped, and Wendy and Trevor were just getting started.
"Double Aerial Ace!" They both commanded. The two birds flew up high and did a flip, divebombing towards the challenging pokemon.

Drake and Zacarian both went to dodge the attacking bird pokemon. Drake was just a little slower and took some minor damage but he was still ready to fight. Varoon called to Zacarian. "Now use Wintervolt!"

The two birds were starting to wear down, Cici more than Screecher, but their trainers were not going to give up.
"Screecher! Aerial Ace!" He commanded
"Dark Pulse Cici!" Called Wendy. Both pokemon prepared their attacks, with the fearow veering right towards Zacarian while the honchkrow sent a blast of black and purple circles at Drake.

Yet again, the duo were able to dodge the attacks targeted at them. "Counter with Dragonbreath aimed at Honchkrow" Nick called out.
[RESULT: 0]
"And counter with Wintervolt aimed at that Fearow, Zacarian." Varoon called out to the unique colored Jolteon.
[RESULT: 7]+2
Drake was also worn out from the battle and just hanging in there. His attack wasn't all that strong, having been dodging attacks to ensure he didn't take anymore damage. Zacarian, however, hit his mark when he aimed Wintervolt at Fearow.

Screecher screamed from the powerful attack, and Trevor gritted his teeth.
"Fury Attack!" He commanded. Wendy's Honchkrow, having successfully dodged the DragonBreath, haughtily looked on at the dratini below it.
"Aerial Ace!" Wendy called, and Cici dove down towards Drake at the same speed that Screecher dove towards Zacarian.

Zacarian winced in pain as the attack hit. "Wintervolt yet again!" Varoon called out.

The attack was still aimed at the Fearow. From the beginning the two sides chose their particular opponents. Meanwhile, Drake was still being targeted by Honchkrow and doing his best to avoid attacks. Another hit could finish him for this battle. "Twister on Honchkrow!" Nick shouted at Drake.
[RESULT: 1]
But the attack hardly did anything, much to Drake and Nick's disappointment.

"Screecher is unable to battle!" The judge said. Trevor sighed and made a "T" with his arms, walking onto the battlefield to pick up his fallen friend. He walked back to his side of the field and set the bird down, petting him.
"Ya did yer best." He cooed. Wendy rolled her eyes and turned to Cici.
"Let's show this guy what a real gym leader can do, Cici, Dark Pulse on the Dratini!" She commanded. The honchkrow charged up her attack and threw her attack forward.

For all his dodging, Drake couldn't avoid this attack. He was still in the battle, however. If only just. "Come on, Drake! You still have some fight left in you. Twister on that Honchkrow, now!"
