Skye made her way back to route 801. Route 802 was just a bit too tough for her Tynamo and she really wanted to train it before she challenged the gym in Gustella Town. Tynamo had the type advantage for the gym, but he could use one or two more levels.
She stepped off the path and began looking around for her first victim.

Oh sob... oh cry! A little attention hungry Shuppet was hovering rather close to the base of a tree, fake tears cascading over his cheeks as he tried his darndest to cry loudly and hopefully attract some attention. And luckily for him, there was a trainer ambling back from the town to look for something to do! As soon as he heard the footsteps, the Shuppet was blocking her path, puffing out his chest and snorting as if he were the biggest, baddest thing in the area.
"Shuuuuupet~ Shup Shup!" he chanted, the bottom of his body billowing in the breeze.

Skye had to admit, the random popping out of a ghost Pokemon right in front of her scared the crap out of her. She must have jumped at least ten feet into the air! She looked at the Pokemon, thinking it was so big and bad. It was a Pokemon that seemed as though it might fit her personality. Unluckily for this little Shuppet, however, she wasn't looking for a capture. She was looking to get stronger.
"Alright Tynamo," she said, releasing her fishy thing from his Pokeball. "Go get it."
Tynamo stared at the Shuppet blankly. "........... Ty."
Skye facepalmed. "Tynamo, for the love of Pokemon, use Spark please!" she said, exasperated. Tynamo then released electricity from its body as she commanded.
[RESULT: 2]
It hardly did any damage at all. Skye facepalmed again. She would never get her first gym badge. Unless she counted on Squirtle.

...Oh my. This would be a fuuuuuuuuun battle. The Shuppet grinned wickedly and did an aerial somersault, missing the majority of the attack before puffing up again and 'charging' towards the Tynamo. When he was close enough, he rammed his horn into the foe and jutted upwards, hoping to do some major damage with Knock Off.

Skye sighed. Maybe if Shuppet kept hitting Tynamo hard enough, Tynamo would get angry and battle harder? She doubted it. Not much seemed to phase her little Pokemon.
She thought for a moment. Normal attacks didn't work on ghosts, so she was stuck with the electric moved. "Alright Ty, use Spark again!" she called.
[RESULT: 4]
Well, that was a BIT better!

Hm, this wasn't as fun as he first thought. Although there was no real evidence to prove it aside from the Tynamo's first attack, the force of the Spark did seem to get stronger... gah. He needed to try to step it up, and fast. Twirling around, the Shuppet took to the skies, getting a good distance away from the derpy pokemon. In a short matter of moments, his usual blue and yellow eyes had turned red, a red jolt of energy surging from them and towards Tynamo. Clearly a Night Shade.

Well that hit didn't seem to do as much at least. Cool move though, Skye admitted to herself.
"Tynamo, use Chargebeam!" she commanded.
[RESULT: 4]
The electric beam connected, doing a little damage.

Chargebeam? What the Muk was that? Whatever it was, it hurt, and it looked way cooler than his Night Shade. Which made him rather mad. He could do better than that! Floating off again, the Shuppet reared back and fired off a more impressive Night Shade, hoping the trainer would get jealous.

And the trainer was jealous. It seemed the madder she made Shuppet, the stronger it got. Tynamo wouldn't do that. She sighed. She wished Tynamo had SOME emotion!
"....... Ty," it sighed, as if to emphasize her point.
"Ok Tynamo, one more time, use Spark," she said, hoping and praying this would be enough to knock Shuppet out before it knocked Tynamo out.
[RESULT: 1]
Skye facepalmed. The attack was basically useless! She was finding it harder and harder to stick up for her Tynamo's strength.

Beautiful, just splendid! Shuppet laughed to himself at the Tynamo, literally rolling around in mid-air at the sight of the pokemon. Those things needed to stay in the water where they belonged! Now with his ego inflated, the ghost type shook himself off and lowered his head, charging at his foe with a Knock-Off again... and then a voice cut through the crisp air.
"Protect that sweetheart, Gypsy!"
[RESULT: 9]
There was a flash of green, and then the new pokemon and Shuppet were knocked back away from each other, Gypsy panting as she stood tall before Skye's Tynamo. She'd taken the attack for him, and just in time too. Shuppet was almost raging now, but on a side note, this new person and pokemon only meant more attention. He suddenly beamed, flipping and showing off before the crowd while Vero approached Skye.
"Is he alright, hun? You should really watch yourself around here, these new ghost types mean business, no matter how silly they may be" he asked her, grabbing her hands and holding them in his to try and offer comfort. "Maybe you should come back with a friend. Always better to travel in groups!" After a few moments, Vero flipped his green hair and looked backwards, nodding towards Gypsy. "Keep him back with Magical Leaf, darling!"
More than eager to help, the little Snivy turned on her heel, waving at Shuppet before sending a strong column of leaves his way.
[RESULT: 4]
The move was a bit more forceful than expected, and the ghost fell. Gypsy returned to her partner and looked over the Tynamo curiously, Vero offering the girl a smile. "Looks like he won't be showboating for a while." Tynamo - 6/23 Gypsy - 15/24 Shuppet - 0/15EXP: Tynamo: 5 Gypsy: 5

Skye thought that surely Tynamo was finished. That Shuppet was just too strong. Then suddenly, a Pokemon leapt out and took the hit for Tynamo.
Skye looked at the guy who had come to her rescue. He was rather quirky. Skye liked him! She blushed when he grabbed her hands. "Oh, I think he's fine," she said uncertainly. She watched as he finished off the Shuppet. That was a bit of a disappointment. Ty would never level up at this rate!

"Think he is? Honey, shouldn't that be something you know?" Vero asked, arching a brow. "But, if you still want to train out here... I have an idea. You keep battling pokemon, but if there's an attack that looks too strong for the little guy, Gypsy and I can intervene. Besides, you still have berries and such, right?" For the time being, he released her hands and looked at her bag, tempted to rustle around in it for her. And then he noticed her blush. Worried, the man let out a small gasp, leaning in dreadfully close as he placed a hand on her forehead.
"You're looking a little flushed. Hopefully that ghost didn't bring in a chill with it!" Vero tisked to himself and shook his head. At the mention of a ghost, another one ambled in, this one looking rather... tired. The Duskull yawned and floated before them, and Vero pushed Skye ahead. "There ya go! He looks like a good one."

Berries ....? Oh! That was right! Skye had a bag. Filled with supplies. She quickly dug out a couple of berries and gave them to her poor tired Tynamo. "There, now he is definitely ok," she said nodding. She jumped back, slightly started when Vero got very close to her. "Oh ... Yeah, that Shuppet must have brought a chill with it," she said, grasping at the excuse.
He pushed her towards the new ghost. This one was scarier looking than Shuppet and looked rather bored and tired instead of mischievous.
"Ok Tynamo," she said. "Use Chargebeam on it!"
[RESULT: 1]
Well that was .... extremely pathetic. She was absolutely embarrassed in front of the boy watching her battle! What a weak attack! She covered her eyes, unwilling to watch how this battle was going to go.

Oh dear. Gypsy shuffled her feet as she watched the slightly slow, to put it nicely, Tynamo attack his opponent. Not very strong, but at least it was something, right? Right. She wanted to get out there and help him pretty badly, but before she could, Vero scooped her up.
"This isn't our battle. We're here for backup only, and with that little bugger fully recharged again, it may be a while before we get more action." The Snivy nodded and sighed, retreating to the comfort of her companion's arms. Besides, it seemed this girl needed a bit of a coach. He was by her side again in a flash, tapping her shoulder.
"You know, maybe you should encourage him throughout the battle, hun. I know I wouldn't be very motivated to hit hard if my own trainer wasn't even watching!" Meanwhile, the Duskull jolted back a bit, somewhat woken up from the attack. With another yawn his eye began to glow black, a surge of energy pouring out at Tynamo as he attacked with Night Shade.

Skye looked over at the boy. Encouragement. It was hard to encourage such a derpy Pokemon like hers. But it was worth a shot. "Yes, you're probably right," she said.
Then she noticed that the attack caused by Duskull did absolutely nothing to her Tynamo! That put a lift on her spirits.
"Alright Tynamo, that was great!" she lied enthusiastically about his Chargebeam. "Now try a Spark!" she said.
[RESULT: 0]
It did ... nothing. She sighed, but then grudgingly added, "That was a good try Tynamo! Next time let's make it better!"
