With Honchkrow grounded, Maverick gained an advantage. Both trainer and pokemon knew that. Maverick couldn't help but give the Pikachu equivilant of a smirk and Lee pumped his fist into the air out of excitement. Maverick was prepared for Dark Pulse this time and braced himself for it. He took no damage. Honchkrow must have been really affected by that last Thundershock.
"Thundershock again" Lee commanded. "Pikachu!" Maverick exclaimed, nodding his head to say You got it. Maverick charged at the Honchkrow and hit the attack yet again.
[RESULT: 4]+1
It wasn't as strong as the last attack, but it still hit it's mark.
Maverick: 7/28
Honchkrow: 4/30

Without needing to be told, Cici raised her head, throwing another dark pulse forward.

It was comin right down to the line. The two pokemon had given it their all in this battle. Maverick could respect his opponent, the Honchkrow, before him. He took another Dark Pulse, knowing he probably wouldn't be able to take another hit. Question was, could Honchkrow? "Thundershock!"
Maverick gathered up electricity, knowing this could be his last shot at ending this.
[RESULT: 4]+1
And it was enough. His last attack was the one that ended the battle. "Pikachu!" he shouted, saying Victory!
Maverick: 2/28
Honchkrow: 0/30

The referee raised his flags up and cleared his throat. "Cici is unable to battle, Pikachu is the winner. The victory goes to Challenger Lee." He said while Wendy strode over to her fallen pokemon, picking her up gently and hugging the honchkrow. "Well done hun, just relax now." She comforted. The bird warbled in Wendy's arms and pushed against her, fluttering onto her shoulders as the gym leader approached her challenger. "Congratulations, I ain't never had a challenger who beat me with just one pokemon before. As proof of yer victory here at the Gustella Gym, please accept this Float Badge. And you may also choose one of my TM's, they contain my favorite moves, Aerial Ace or Acrobatics." She said as Cici leaned forward, opening her wings to reveal a Float Badge on one wing and the two TM's in the other. Lee walked over to Maverick, who was just able to stand up. He definently looked like he had been in battle before. He got out Maverick's pokeball and kneeled down next to the Pikachu. "You've earned some rest, buddy. Way to go. Return." Maverick returned to his pokeball without complaint and soon Vincent was running toward him.
The bug pokemon had stayed on the sidelines with Hiroaki, not wanting anything to do with the flying type pokemon of this gym. "Venonat!" Vincent chimed in a congratulations. But Lee was distracted as he stared at the pokeball containing Maverick. Just where did his Dad find this pokemon at? When he said Maverick would be helpful, he didn't think he could take on a whole gym by himself.
As he turned his attention to the gym leader now addressing him, she echoed the thoughts in his head. Lee took the badge. "Thank you. It was a good battle." he said as he placed the badge in a carrying case he had in his backpack. With his first badge secured, Lee chose his TM next. "I'll take Aerial Ace." he said and claimed the TM as his own. It all felt like a blur to him. He just won his first gym battle with just one pokemon.

Hiroaki smiled as he watched his friend win the Gym battle and gently pick up Brianna so he could go back to Lee's side and congratulate him. He wasn't sure what else to do but he hopes that Brianna learned something from this battle that she could probably use in the next contest they come across. Once he was able to reach Lee he said, "Congrats on winning your first gym battle Lee. Maverick did a great job as well."

"Wait! Hold on!" Akira called, running as fast as she could towards her friends and the gym leader, Sumire flying behind her quickly. When she reached the small group, she paused for a moment, huffing and puffing as she caught her breath. "Took...a nap...Overslept...Breeder...riddle...please," she said in between puffs of breath, directing the last part towards Wendy.

Wendy smiled at the girl and nodded, pulling a scroll out of a backpack and opening it up, calmly reading from it.
"There is a place not far from here
It's not difficult to find.
Keep to Gustella's lefthand ear
And seek it with sound mind.
Your guide is known for being angry
And marked with a big red bow.
You`ll find it's not quite that scary
Which is strange for a big Fearow."
