Skye made her way to Dust Town. It was a relatively uneventful trip. She'd taken a bus, after all. It wasn't as though she could walk the entire way. Wild Pokemon would jump out at her and she had no Pokemon yet to fend them off. That was why she was here. She was finally going to get her first Pokemon. That was the part she'd hated about the Trainer School. She battled and bonded with the Pokemon there and then she had to give them back. They were never hers and never would be, no matter how strong of friendships she'd formed with them. But now, she was getting her own Pokemon. One that no one would ever take away. One that she would train to be stronger than any other. One that would never lose a battle if she had anything to say about it. She was daydreaming about her peers drooling over her strongest-Pokemon-in-the-world when she ran smack into the door of the laboratory. Looking around, face red, to make sure no one saw her blunder, she quickly hurried inside to get past her embarrassment.
Her nerves had been relatively calm before now. She'd been relatively sure of herself and hadn't dwelled on this moment much. Now, however, inside the lab, she was full of butterflies and wondering what kind of Pokemon she'd get. What if it was something like a Magikarp or a Slakoth? She shuddered to think. She didn't know how the process of receiving this Pokemon would work and that made her nervous as well.
"Professor?" she asked, walking up to a lady that looked pretty official and professor-like. At least, she looked like professors on TV did. "Are you Professor Conifer?" she said, sure she butchered the pronunciation. "I'm Skye. I just graduated the Trainer School. I'm here for my first Pokemon," she said uncertainly.

Aldo climbed off the boat lazily as it docked into Dust Town. "It starts here," he said to himself with a sigh. He did feel a little heartbroken that he was leaving the city he'd always called home, but other than a Raticate, he hadn't left much behind him. The only thing left to do was to move forward, and that meant heading for the Pokemon lab. He saw a girl bump into the door from afar and quickly head in. Seeing nowhere else to head to, he entered the building and went looking for the professor herself, finding her shortly after entering with the same girl already talking with her.

Even though the other two trainers were already there, there was the sound of light, quiet footsteps, and another boy quietly hovered to the back, watching intently. Kieran had moved just as deftly to sneak off the boat he had stowed away on to get here, and being impatient and rash now could not only cost him his chance to become a Trainer, but leave him stranded in an unfamiliar region without a Pokemon or his comfortable home.
So he politely but pointedly stood where he was in sight, making an effort to look interested instead of his usual blank, dreamy expression when he was thinking, and hoped the Professor would have a Pokemon that he would not mind taking with him. If she didn't have one visible, he had heard she had random Pokemon, and he might have to risk it on one of those. He didn't fancy that idea much... probability was not something Kieran had much faith in.

Professor Conifer smiled at the three trainers as she gestured for them to follow her. "Welcome, welcome! This is an important day for you, the day you get your first pokemon." She said as they walked into a back room. In the center of the room, a tall podium stood with 9 pokeballs perched on it, with 6 situated in a ring on the edges of the podium while 3 were huddled together in the middle. The Professor smiled as she approached the podium, opening the outer pokeballs and unleashing the creatures inside. "As you know, my name is Professor Conifer, and I study pokemon types. I want to uncover the secrets behind a pokemon's type, but to do that I have to meet and study a lot of pokemon." She said, turning to her group. "Unfortunately, I cannot leave my lab to do this, and though she is kind, the breeder who supplies me with pokemon sends me ones who are too young to be properly studied. This is why you are here. You may choose any of the pokemon you see here, coordinators and breeders get two while trainers are allowed only one pokemon. These," Professor Conifer started, gesturing towards the 3 unopened pokeballs. "Are mystery pokemon. Even I do not know what is inside. My friend has a strange sense of humor, and specifically instructed the pokemon inside of these pokeballs to bond to the first person who opens their pokeball. That means that if you choose to open a mystery ball, you cannot unpick it. Choose wisely." She finished, moving off to the side to allow the beginners to pick their forever partner.

Aldo looked over the available Pokemon, paying particular attention to the mystery balls. He hadn't expected a selection of any more than three Pokemon, nor had he thought the professor would have Pokemon he wouldn't know about. Thinking things over, he sighed and decided he would have to take the risk and reached for a mystery ball. "Well, here goes nothing," he said, tossing the ball into the air.

Keiran, still to the back, surveyed the choices of Pokemon. There were the three mystery Pokemon (just as he had suspected, impossible to revoke...), and the ones he could see- four reptiles of varying types, a magnet, and an illusion fox.
This was going to be more difficult than he had expected.
He doubted that he would have time to interact with the Pokemon and try to determine which one's personality best synchronized with his. The idea of just selecting one based on what he knew about the species and hoping they got along was not his idea of exceptional. With those odds, he'd almost be better off taking the mystery Pokemon.
Keiran gave a mental sigh. His intuition had told him that today, despite how important it was, was going to be a day he'd want to forget the rest of his life. Did this extend to his starter? Knowing his luck, probably.
...well, if he was going to have a horrible day anyways and more likely than not end up with a Pokemon horribly ill-suited for him, better to take the full risk. One of the mystery Pokeballs had already been snatched up, and with a resigned sigh, he quietly stepped forward, gave the Treecko and Zorua an apologetic glance, and took one of the remaining two random choices.
"Please... just... be something reasonable..." he muttered as he pressed the button to open it. If whatever it turned out to be was particularly unintellegent and incapable of understanding him, or especially dangerous to him, he suspected that he would end up repeatedly hitting his head against the wall.

The two pokeballs burst open and the lights that emerged took shape in front of their respective trainers. The first one was a small black and blue pokemon, and upon opening it's eyes, took in Aldo's form. It looked him up and down, nodding approvingly before moving to stand next to him. "Riolu." It said quietly as the other pokemon floated over to Kieran. "Poooooooooooor ygon gon." It said excitedly, buzzing around him quickly. Aldo: Pokemon Name: Riolu Gender: Male Pokemon Personality: Quiet, Reserved, Cheerful Pokemon Ability: Inner Focus Pokemon Health: 24 Pokemon Level: 5 Move Roster: Sky Uppercut, Quick Attack, Foresight Kieran: Pokemon Name: Porygon Gender: Male Pokemon Personality: Excitable, Air-headed, Helpful Pokemon Ability: Trace Pokemon Health: 22 Pokemon Level: 5 Move Roster: Conversion 2, Tackle, Conversion, Astonish

Skye looked over the Pokemon that the professor showed to the three. They were all very tempting ... well, except Magnemite. Skye really didn't know what she would do with a Magnemite. Zorua was the most tempting, staring at her cutely with that cute face. She was halfway tempted to pick it, but she decided against it. Skye was a gambler. She would take her chances with the remaining mystery ball, determined not to be outdone by her two peers.
She picked up the last remaining ball. "That leaves you for me," she said. "Please be something good." She threw the ball into the air, anticipation causing her stomach to flutter worse than ever before.

The pokeball Skye had thrown opened up and a white light emerged from inside. As the light faded, a white pokemon floated in front of her. It stared at her with empty eyes, and said and did nothing. "....." It stared and did nothing. "........" It continued to do nothing as it stared. "...................." Yet more silence, and for a second, Professor Conifer wasn't sure if it was alright. "Ty." It finally peeped after awhile, floating over to Skye and bumping her chest, prompting her to wrap her arms around it as the little pokemon gave a relaxed sigh and stared at nothing. "That. Is the weirdest Tynamo I have ever seen. Good luck with it. You guys are free to name your pokemon at this point." Professor Conifer said, crossing her arms as she looked at the new pairs. Skye: Pokemon Name: Tynamo Gender: Male Pokemon Personality: Silent, Affectionate, Prone to Delayed Reactions Pokemon Ability: Levitate Pokemon Health: 23 Pokemon Level: 5 Move Roster: Tackle, Thunder Wave, Spark, Chargebeam

Skye was expecting something really cool like maybe a Kyogre! Not .... this. Whatever it was stared at her. It was unnerving really. It. Just. Stared. "Uhhh ..." Skye said, staring back at it, perplexed. Finally the thing spoke and then settled itself into her arms and she decided maybe it wasn't so bad after all.
"You're going to be the strongest Pokemon ever with me as your trainer," she told it fondly. "Would you like that?" she asked. It continued to stare at nothing and Skye shrugged, giving up. It was the best Pokemon ever automatically because it was hers now and that was all that mattered to her. She couldn't wait to test it out in battle!
"I'll just call it by its species name," Skye told the Professor. "Tynamo is a cute name anyways."

With a well-timed motion, Keiran reached out, caught the Porygon in mid-orbit, and took the opportunity to inspect it. It seemed quite hyper... but he could deal with hyper as long as it listened to him when it mattered. This wasn't bad, he could make this work. Of course, this did nothing to lessen his sense of impending doom. Whatever was going to happen to ruin his day was still ahead of him.
"...DJ Not-A-DJ," Keiran said to the Porygon in a slightly absent tone. "That's your name, don't forget it, because I'll be expecting you to respond to it." He released it, letting it continue to circle around him. He wouldn't have been terribly surprised if the Porygon-sounds it was making meant something along the lines of "SPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!"
The digital Pokemon now named, he turned his attention to the Professor. He assumed that this wasn't it...

Aldo looked at his own Pokemon with a smile. This wasn't something he'd seen in person before, but he'd heard of it from books and the like. "Okay little guy. I guess we're friends from now on," he said, patting Riolu on the head.
"Rio!" Friend! Riolu piped in happily.

"Interesting" the Professor commented, turning around to examine a few screens behind her. "Well, now that everything is taken care of-- oops!" Suddenly, the professor turned to a box near the podium, quickly rustling through it and setting up several rows of different items.
"Can't believe I almost forgot these..." she mumbled, scratching the back of her head. "Now, since I don't think any of you are breeders, don't hesitate to grab some pokeballs. Along with a pokedex and bag of your choice, of course. After that, well... you're all free to go." Smiling, she nudged the box to the side, stepping back again to observe the upcoming youths before she got back to her work.
