Donovan walked through the town, towards Professor Conifer's lab to receive his first pokemon. It still didn't seem real that he would no longer be the one keeping up a Pokemon race track, but would instead be the one doing the racing. He'd been dreaming of this day ever since he was adopted and saw his first Pokemon race.
As he walked along the streets, through small housing communities among the town, he began wondering about which pokemon would be awaiting him at the laboratory. Maybe a Treecko of a Cyndaquil? What about Chimchar, another fast one? Then there were the Mystery Balls, which could hold literally any pokemon. What would be in those? Maybe a Pikachu, or an Eevee maybe? Who knew what it would be?
He finally came to the door of the Professor's laboratory, and stopped just in front of the door. A nervously excited pit settled in his stomach. His very first pokemon awaited him just on the other side of that door. Slowly, he reached out and pushed the door open slowly, sticking just his head inside to get a look. The lights were on, but he didn't see or hear anyone. Could he have missed the Professor? Did she leave for the day already?
"Hello?" he called out into the building as he stepped all the way inside and closed the door behind himself. He wasn't sure if he should go looking through the lab for the Professor or not.....

Tane ran into Dust town at full speed, he had been going as fast as he could to get to the town and stopped for as little breaks as he could. He probably should of stopped and looked more into pokemon racing, but that wasn't in his mind at the moment, all that was in his mind was getting his pokemon and starting a race. As he reached the lab he spotted a person at the front door of the lab. Tane came to a quick stop and watched as the guy walked inside. He ran up into the door and flung it open. "Hey dude! Is the professor in?"

Donvan jumped as he heard the door slam open again behind him, and someone jumped into the lab asking him about the Professor. He looked at the newcomer and shrugged.
"Idunno. I just got here. I don't see her," Donovan told the younger boy, sticking his hands in his pants' pockets,"Maybe she's out doing some field work somewhere or something. There's no way to know."

Tane laughed at Donovan "Of course there is a way to find out, its called looking around. We won't find out if we don't actually look ya know." Tane looked around the lab. "I say we go check around, unless your to chicken to go any farther. Its ok if you are, and hey, I'll even come back and get you when I find the professor." Tane mocked hoping to get Donovan to go farther in the lab with him.

It hadn't been too long a journey from Torrentia City to Dust City but it had still worn Aidan. He had traveled by foot largely due to lack of funds; he almost couldn't wait to get into his coordinator career. Hopefully he wouldn't be too awful at it. Maybe good enough to win a few meal tickets at least.
He took his first steps into Dust City and juggled between stopping at the Pokemon Center to rest and going straight to the lab; in the end, he decided on the lab. The sooner he got is partner for this adventure the better, really. The lab itself was easier to find then a Center anyway; it was pretty much the largest building in the tiny town.
In his mind, he was going over the possible Pokemon he could pick and he couldn't help but hope that at least one of them would be a water Pokemon. While not homesick just yet, he knew he would be eventually and the best reminder of home would be a graceful water Pokemon. He approached the automatic doors with this thought in mind and was greeted by two other first timers, both young men.
While one appeared to be at least his age, the other was definitely younger, still caught in the throes of puberty. He raised an eyebrow at their loudness and shrugged; that was just how some people were. "Hello,"he said. "I take it the professor isn't around?"

As the boys talked, a cold wind blew. A figure appeared in the distance, and was rushing to the lab at a great speed. It kept running and running, until it stopped at the door. "Oh my, they are already in. Let's hurry Ranny!" Said a female voice. A tall, black-haired woman entered through the open door, quickly followed by a large blue pokemon. It looked sternly at the boys and growled, prompting Conifer to intervene. "Nono Ranny, it's not their fault. It's perfectly fine, honest. No need to attack. Hello! I`m Professor Conifer! SOrry we're late, we had a hard time getting all the pokeballs together. Even a Suicune can't beat time I guess." She said. Ranny snorted as Professor Conifer walked past the group to a door in the back of the room, and Ranny pushed the trio along, making them follow. In the room behind the door, a large podium stood, and Ranny padded over to it and laid down while Professor Conifer pulled out pokeball after pokeball from the suicune's mane. She kept pulling until she had 9 and laid 3 of them on the podium, opening the other 6. The 6 pokemon lined up in front of the podium as Professor Conifer cleared her throat. "Well, I COULD give you the old "this is your first pokemon and here is what I want you to do" lecture, but that's no fun. So how about we get right to the fun part? Trainers and Racers get one pokemon each while Coordinators and Breeders get two. You may choose any of these six OR one of the three mystery pokeballs. The mystery pokeballs can be ANYTHING, but once you open them, you are stuck with it forever. Choose wisely." She said as she and Ranny stepped back to let them make their choices. X X

Donovan was about to tell the kid that running into the lab wouldn't be a good idea when someone else came into the door. Apparently the Professor had been expecting many people today, but had ended up being late for them. He was on the verge of leaving and coming back the next day when a large gust of wind blew in through the door. He turned and looked to see a Suicune with none other than Professor Conifer on its back. She quickly apologized and lead them into the lab to see which pokemon would be available for them to choose.
Donovan looked at them all and considered carefully. The one that first called out to him was Treecko, but then there was also Chimchar, a pokemon with a good mix of power and speed. The others weren't really bad choices either, with good merits of their own, especially Charmander who would have the significant advantage of flying once evolved into Charizard.
On the other hand, though, Donovan was feeling good today and thinking about taking his chances with the Mystery Ball. In fact, he decided that that was what he would do....
"Professor, I think I'll take a Mystery Ball," he said, moving forward to where the mystery balls rested on the pedestal and selected the one he wanted. Then, he took it from the pedestal and released the pokemon inside.....

Lo and behold, there was the Professor. Well, tardiness couldn't be helped sometimes. Instead, Aidan focused on the six Pokemon in front of him. His eyes were quickly drawn to the Totodile, who was very tempting. The only thing was that they were better for trainer battles than coordinating but...
... really the Totodile was the only known water Pokemon offered. There were also the three mystery pokeballs. And he did get two so... Why not?
"I think I'll take a risk and pick the mystery ball as well, Professor,"he said, eyes drifting to the Suicune. It was a gorgeous specimen. "Also, Ranny is quite the beautiful water Pokemon..." He smiled and turned back to the Professor.
"I'll take a mystery ball and the Totodile as well."

Tane was amazed at seeing the legendary Pokemon that followed the forth person who had walked in. The Pokemon growled and looked sternly at him and the other two who were in the lab. The new person apologized and gave her name, it was Professor Conifer. After explaining that she had been running late she pushed them to the back of the lab where she displayed six Pokemon and laid out three unopened Pokeballs. Professor Conifer then explained some stuff but Tane wasn't listening at that point, he was already looking at the unopened Pokeballs, what did she call them? Mystery Pokeballs? Awesome!
Tane saw as the two other trainers walked over and picked up their pokemon. Dude, they're gonna grab the Pokeballs first? No far! Tane Rushed over and grabbed the last mystery ball. "I'll take this one then!" Tane said and he released the unknown Pokemon from its ball.

The first pokeball that opened was Donovan's, and the bright light that emerged from it didn't even wait to form fully before it tackles into him. Squawking filled the boy's ears as the light finally faded, revealing a giant brown puffball. "MINE!" "MINE!" "MINE!" The yelling went back and forth nonstop. The doduo looked at Donovan with both heads before turning to each other and glaring again. "Doduo! Mine!" They bickered back and forth. Meanwhile, Tane's pokeball burst open, and the light immediately reached out to him and coiled around him, shaping itself into a furry blue form on his chest. The tiny pokemon cooed and nuzzled Tane before looking up at him with big eyes. "Shinx!" It cried happily. As totodile walked towards Aidan, the pokeball he threw burst open. Instead of the normal, flashing white light, the light inside was a calm, slow-moving silver light with some rainbowy sparkles coming off of it. Totodile looked in wonder as the silver light slowly formed, turning into a tri-colored swanlike pokemon. The pokemons eyes were closed as everyone stared in awe, but it slowly opened them and took a look at Aidan, tilting its head curiously. The pokemon floated up to Aidan and took a closer look, flying around him as part of its inspection. When it was done assessing him, the pokemon settled in front of him and gave him a warm smile, nodding at him/ "Cress." It said softly, nudging its face towards him. Tane looked at The partially talking Doduo then and then at the legendary Pokemon then finally at the blue lion Pokemon that had appeared on him. The one he got didn't look very special compared to the other two's... Then he saw the Shinx's big eyes that looked up at him affectionately. "You are...Perfect..." He said to the small Pokemon who in return continued to coo and nuzzle into Tane.
"ALRIGHT!" Tane suddenly said and pointed at the two other trainers. You two may think your special cause you got special Pokemon, but me and my new bud Sirius are gonna race to the top and be the best we can! He's pretty cool isn't he, and he's only gonna get cooler." Tane went on happily as he pet the Shinx. He couldn't believe his luck on getting an electric Pokemon and while Tane was slightly disappointed on being the one without a special(ish) he knew that this would be the Pokemon that would start his new career and he wouldn't have it any other way.

As the Doduo emerged, he had to cover his ears because of the sheer volume of all the squawking. As the bright light from the pokeball took form into a Doduo, Donovan saw that he could actually understand what the Doduo's two heads were saying. Had he gotten a talking pokemon. He'd heard of them, but never seen them before. As it went on, though, it seemed as though the Doduo was simply only capable of saying the word "mine", and nothing else, as the two heads apparently bickered over which one he belonged to.
"Hey, you two," Donovan said, walking up and putting a hand on both of the heads and smiling,"You are both mine, all right? You don't need to squawble. There's plenty of me for the both of you."
"Mine?" the head to Donovan's left said.
"MIIIIIINE!" the head to his right said, glaring at the other head and then taking a cheap shot peck at it. At that point, Donovan stepped forward and held the two apart from each other.
"Look, you two, quit fighting," he said, looking at both of them,"You need to learn to get along with each other, especially since you're...you know, kind of the same pokemon."
He let out a sigh and stepped back and looked at the Doduo. It certainly was unique, that was for sure. But, it was still his pokemon, and he was going to conquer the Jockeying races with it.
"Doduo," he said, grinning,"I think I'm going to call you....Mine."
The two heads looked at each other and then back at him, rolled to either side and said in unison, "Mine?"
"Yes," Donovan said, laughing,"Mine."

Aidan had expected something common like a Pikachu or Oddish. So when the ball burst in a shower of colorful light, he was completely take a back by the graceful and gentle Pokemon that emerged. It glided around him gently, examining him with small, round black eyes. Its tricolored body was definitely eye catching and its tapering head was elegant.
Cresselia, while not a water Pokemon, was quite a Pokemon to start off with and would, later, more than make up for her Totodile partner's brute strength. Gently, he brushed fingers over her pointed, up turned nose and listened to her make a soft, humming noise; it turned out to be her species. He smiled and nodded, looking to his Totodile companion as well.
The blue, scaley reptile approached, looking awed as well. He came to settle next to Aidan, glancing between his trainer and his beautiful contest partner. Aidan reached down and scratched the flat of his head, making the reptilian Pokemon's eyes squint.
He looked up to the professor, still smiling. "Thank,"he said,"They're perfect. I think that I'll name them Jove-"he guestured to his smaller Totodile friend-"and Anthea." He nodded toward his Cresselia.
Anthea purred again and nuzzled his shoulder. Jove nodded and crossed his arms over his blue chest, seemingly satisfied.

Tane ran over and grabbed the second bag and the orange Pokedex "I call these." He said quickly. "Thanks for the stuff Professor Conifer, this is awesome!" Tane then ran out the door as fast as he could to route 801.
