The sky was the color of a television, tuned to a dead channel. The air was damp. Humid, that too. Daryll didn't appreciate it at all, really. Not at all as triumphant as he'd have appreciated it to be. He shrugged, adjusted his beret, and strolled on into the lab.
Oh, right, yes. Daryll was here today because he wanted to be a Pokemon trainer. That's somewhat important information, I find.
Daryll opened the door to the lab and strolled on in, as I mentioned prior. He was confident, poised, and ready. As soon as he walked in, it thundered, and began raining in a volume such that it seemed as if Poseidon had killed Zeus and was now making the sky another sea... or something like that. Daryll turned around in surprise, and observed said rain.
"Well." Daryll whistled. "That's gonna be hell to walk through." He sighed loudly, then turned back around and began walking through the place anew.
It wasn't long before he found himself bored.
"Hey." He said, in case he'd just missed the professor who he'd come to see in the first place (being named Conifer because Pokemon professors are always named after trees for some reason.) "Prospective trainer on the premises. Anyone home?"

The Professor was near the far recesses of the lab, her glasses illuminated by a white screen thanks to the rows of monitors and other electronical equipment before her, face solemn as she attempted to finish her task. "Just a moment. Need to make sure all files have backups and the generators outside can support the lab with this storm going on..." she said, continuing the sentence in quiet mumbles only to be heard by her. Thankfully it only took a few minutes, and after she turned off the majority of the machinery, Professor Conifer brushed her bangs away from her face and smiled at Daryll.
"A trainer, you said? Very well. Trainers may choose only one pokemon, and this year, you also have the choice of choosing a Mystery Ball as well. It's one or the other. There are bags, items, and pokedexes over on that table when you're ready for them. Easy enough, yes?" Her attention was drawn to the released starters then, watching their mixed reactions from the storm.

"Ain't rocket science, no." Daryll chuckled, then got to looking at the starter Pokemon. "Now let's see here."
He gave them a once-over, immediately crossing the... fire monkey thing off of his mental list. Daryll had never been too fond of monkies.
A worryingly long amount of time passed as Daryll looked over the Pokemon. Time seemed to slow down for the residents of the room, as though the world itself had fallen into some kind of temporal rift. The tectonic effects of million years seemed to rock Daryll's mind as he scrutinized the Pokemon in front of him. He broke out in a cold sweat after the third minute.
Then, suddenly, he swung into movement again.
"I think I'll take that one!" He quickly grasped a Mystery Ball, and with a flourish, released its occupant from its mysterious confines.

Alexandra was already sprinting to the lab, dashing through the open door, and making a quick roll.
"Safe!" She said, after standing up again.
She then looked at professor conifer, "Hiya, you must be the prof, i'm here to get a pokemon!" She said with her loud voice.
She then looked over the pokemon, there were some strong ones there, but none of them looked fast. "Well you look kinda fast, but i'm not fond of monkeys." She said to the chimchar.
She then got one of the remaining mystery balls, "Alright then, gotta do this fast, so i pick this one. But what's in it?"She said after throwing the ball.

They got more and more interesting with each coming day, it seemed. Still, the Professor was there to meet and greet every which one, somewhat happy that she didn't have to explain too much to Alex when she arrived. The girl just jumped right in and chose the most popular choice, as did Daryll - a Mystery Ball. All of them waited in anticipation as the red lights dissipated, one pokemon appearing before the other thanks to the timing.
First, a smallish, gaseous form floated eerily towards Daryll, eyes half-lidded as he studied his new trainer. Around and around he went, floating circles about the trainer before he stopped altogether and stuck his tongue out, planting a looong lick on the side of Daryll's face before floating back and chuckling like mad. Typical wannabe prankster, that one. Next to form was... well. A massive pokemon indeed. Conifer found herself looking up and adjusting her glasses as a Tropius appeared, blinking at the people and Gastly curiously. Hm... these people would do................ well enough. He took a slow step over to all of them before realizing that he could only choose one, or rather, only one had chosen him. .....Oh. Bother. Leaning down, he nudged Alex's arm, flapping his wings with uncanny speed. Well, he may have been slow in the head, but at least he had apparent skills.

Then Daryll got licked on the fact. He was slightly unnerved, and a bit ticked off that he didn't get the Tropius.
"Um. Hi there." Daryll said to the floating ball of... purple... fire... whatever a Gastly even is.
The Gastly eyed Daryll over for a moment.
Daryll eyed the Gastly over for a moment.
The two had a stareoff.
They began pacing in a circle, well Daryll did anyway because Gastly doesn't have feet. They both continued to make mock-suspicious faces at each other as they slowly paced, eying one another over.
"Draw!" Daryll said suddenly, as he thrusted his hand forward in a finger-gun position.
The Gastly smirked. He then proceeded to summon a fist as large as it was, made entirely out of electricity, to return the gesture. Daryll stared dumbly, awed.
"holy crap that's awesome" He said. "Like for a second I was a bit disappointed I didn't get the flying palm tree dinosaur but you are totally cool with me, man. Pound it." The two new best bros fistbumped. It kinda hurt Daryll a little but it was totally worth it. "Just, uh, lick other things, if that's cool with you." The Gastly thought for a moment, then gave a noncommittal quiver.
Daryll paused for a moment, deep in thought. Time began to slow down again, but Daryll returned to life much quicker this time.
"Now I don't know what you're called and even if I learn what you're called I'll forget it anyway, trust me. So how about I call you Tiger Driver '91?" The newly-christened Tiger Driver '91 looked at Daryll like he was weird for a moment, then decided he liked the name, and contorted his face to look the part.
"Now then. About this other stuff." Daryll strolled over to the place where the stuff was, and began looking them over. His face contorted in some amusing ways as he thought, Tiger Driver '91 imitating them in a comedic manner as Daryll did so.
"I've got it!" Daryll reached out and grabbed the briefcase on the far right, and grabbed the purple Pokedex to match his new bro. He looked at the scarf, then saw that it was Breeders only, and had to hold back a cry of despair because MAN that's a kickin' rad scarf.
"Well!" Daryll cried, raising his fist in the air. Tiger Driver '91 did the same. "I'm totally set. Aw yeah." He began to walk back out, but paused for a moment, then turned around and inspected the other person and her new Tropius.
"Hey, wanna fight the flying palm tree dinosaur?" Tiger Driver '91 put on a look that told Daryll "Hell yeah." "Cool. Hey yo!" He said, this time to the other trainer. "What say you we have our new pals duke it out? You know. For kicks."

Alex looked over her giant new pokemon, a tropius. It looked fast already, but with a bit of training, it would definitely be even faster, then she would have no trouble winning races. And on the plus side, this tropius doesn't look like he would get bullied easily, seeing that it's bigger than herself.
"Alright i shall name you something cool and fast, hmm, How about i call you after my favorite motorcycle, Kenshin."She said happily.
Kenshin looked for a moment, and nodded after a few seconds, agreeing to the name.
"alright then, let's...." before she could exclaim that they were leaving she forgot she hadn't gotten a bag yet, so she ran towards them and got the 2nd bag, as it would be easiest to carry around, plus the orange dex as it would fit her outfit.
"Alright, now we are ready to..." before she could say she was leaving once more, she was interupted, and asked for a battle.
"... Alright! you better not regret taking on Kenshin over here!" She exclaimed, saying loudly.

Even though she wasn't one for interrupting social gatherings, especially when trainers and pokemon were still so newly acquainted with each other... she needed to adjourn here. "Sorry you guys, but you can't battle in here - especially with electrical attacks. The pokemon here are nervous as is, and with this storm, I can't have extra risk to the machines." Arching a brow, she turned them around and ushered them to the door. "Besides, the rain will add quite the... element to your battle. Have fun!" Conifer shooed them off with a wave, standing guard to make sure they really did leave the premises.

"Hey, don't lump me together with him, i'm a girl, geez!"she exclaimed out loud, to the surprise of Kenshin.
"Tro?"He said, thinking that Alex was a boy all this time, well, it was a bit slow.
"Agh, you too Kenshin! Geez, do i need to wear a bikini top to show that i'm a girl, sigh, people should know from just looking at my face."she exclaimed "Well whatever, let's take this outside stranger, my name is Alexandra btw, but you can call me Alex, no, i'd rather you'd call me Alex." she said, and ran outside, the rain was still going, but not as loud as it was earlier.
"Alright Kenshin, let's show them... Kenshin?"she looked back, and saw that he didn't fit through the door.
"Oops, Return!"she said calling him back into the pokeball, and then calling it back outside.
"Ok, Alex and Kenshin, ready to rumble."

And then Daryll, Tiger Driver '91, and the other two were out in the rain. Bleh.
"Freakin' rain, man. Hate rain." Tiger Driver '91 stuck out his elongated tongue to accentuate his concurrence. "Glad we're in agreement here."
It then occurred to him that the chick was talking to him. She'd introduced herself as Alex.
"Daryll. It's a pleasure." He tipped his beret, looking incredibly goofy as he did so. "Now then. Let's get started, shall we?"
"Hey, Tiger Driver '91." They looked at each other. "Do the... punch thing." Tiger Driver '91 obviously understood Daryll's vague wording, as soon enough, the Thunderpunch was flying at Kenshin at high speeds.

Kenshin got hit by the thunderpunch, before he was able to do anything himself.
"Ooh, that's dirty, what i'd expect from ghost pokemon, we weren't even ready yet."she said. She then got out her pokedex, and used it on her tropius. "let's see what you can do... hmm, i see." She looked over to the ghastly
"Alright Kenshin, use gust and blow that sucker away!"
Kenshin yelled out loud, and flapped his wings very fast, the wind forming towards the ghastly, blowing the ball of gas away.

Tiger Driver '91: 23/24
Kenshin: 27/31

"Sorry!" Daryll said in embarrassment. "I thought you were ready." He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. At that moment, Kenshin used Gust, blowing a great deal of rain in the two's faces. Daryll threw his hands up in front of his face. Tiger Driver '91 was not quite so lucky.
After that subsided, Daryll dropped his now even-more-soaking-wet arms to his sides. "Yo, Tiger Driver '91! You okay?" The Gastly was disoriented, but not very much worse for wear. "Oh. Okay, good. Hey, what else can you do?"
And, for a demonstration, Tiger Driver '91 used Hypnosis, putting Kenshin to sleep.
"Oh. That works. That's pretty cool, actually."

Kenshin fell asleep quite easily, and he looked hard to wake.
"damnid, wake up you big oaf, now is not the time to be sleeping, just... wake up!" She yelled at it, but this was quite useless.
She looked panicked towards the ghastly, who she thought had a "Umadbro?"face put on.... what a troll.
"Gah! this is bad, this is not good, and wake up faster you idiot Kenshin!

And then that worked perfectly and the lumbering palm tree fell asleep. And snored. Very loudly. Daryll covered his ears.
"Hey, yo, Tiger Driver '91. Lick him like you did me earlier, I think it would be funny." Tiger Driver '91 was only too happy to oblige, aiming directly for Kenshin's neck, his tongue outstretched.

Kenshin: 20/31

"Agh no, this is too much, Kenshin stop having happy dreams and wake up, don't you see he's licking you!" She yelled, in a futile attempt to wake him up, it seemed he stirred a bit, but he didn't wake up.
"... great." She said in deadpan, seems like he wouldn't wake up just yet.
"Welllll crap."
