'So this is a Pokémon lab,' the young man thought, staring up at the building in front of him. It was impressive, at least in his opinion. His parents had told him, time and again, what it was like the day they themselves went to gain their first Pokémon from the Johto Starter Lab in New Birch Town, run by Professor Elm. They had talked about the sheer joy and thrill of meeting their first partner, and being able to make their start as trainers. He was just as interested in doing so, standing about halfway up the path to the Dust Town Lab.
Walking up the rest of the way to the front of the lab, Train Curean paused. 'Hope the professor here isn't too busy to help me.' The brown haired teen looked at the door carefully, contemplating his next move. Making up his mind, he nodded sharply to himself, before raising a hand to knock deftly on the Lab's door. Whatever happened next, he was ready to make his start as a trainer.
As he waited, he considered what kinds of Pokémon he would like as a starter. He had seen so many Pokémon so far in his life time he would be happy with just about anything, even a Pokémon most people considered 'weak' or 'useless'. Once he entered the lab, he would make his choice on starters. Now it was simply a waiting game until the doors opened, and the professor welcomed him inside to begin his journey.

Train looked between the Pokémon currently out on display, available for him to choose. Even though he usually would just jump in, he knew this decision would affect the rest of his life, and his journey as a trainer. Sending a glance at the mystery balls, he considered the strengths and weaknesses that each Pokémon in front of his possessed. The Charmander would eventually be a Charizard, capable of flying him around the region, though it was weak to multiple other Pokémon. The Mudkip usually had strong moves, but he saw more weaknesses than strengths to it. It was the same with the Chikorita, even though it reminded him of his mother's own starter. Dratini would, eventually, be a strong Pokémon with powerful moves, but he had spent too much time surrounded by dragon types to really want one. He also had little interest in either the Magnemite or Trapinch, or their evolutions. The Mystery Ball could have anything in it, from what the Professor had said. Perhaps he'd get something rare, or something powerful.
Seeing the Suicune, his eyes widened. He knew this Pokémon, having been told a great deal about it as a child. This majestic water type, often called the 'Aurora Pokémon', was well known for purifying polluted bodies of water. It was also believed to embody the northern wind, which Train could definitely see looking at the powerful legendary. Biting his lip, he was impressed. Perhaps, someday, he would be partnered with such an amazing Pokémon as well.
Considering these thoughts, he knew what he was going to do. Even if the decision was final, he knew his path. With a sigh, the young man turned his gaze back on the professor. Bouncing on his toes, a wide grin on his face, he declared his choice. "I'll go with one of those Mystery Balls, please," he told the professor respectfully, but with a glint in his eye that spoke of mischief in the future.
Reaching out towards the center Mystery Ball, Train grasped it firmly. Once he had it, he gave the ball a toss high into the air above his head. The young prankster could only hope that he gained a partner with a similar personality to his, but would be pleased with anything. Watching, and waiting, he couldn't wait to see what Pokémon came out of it. No matter what happened next, his path was set, and he would become an official trainer.

A blaze of white light illuminated the room. But in a flash, it was all over. The pokemon now standing before her trainer called out. Not in the way a normal one of it's kind would either. This one spoke to Train. "Finally get to stretch my wings. Fiiiiiiinally." she spoke out in a calm, soothing, feminine voice. Before Train was a female Skarmory and one that could talk. She walked over toward her trainer and looked up at Train. She gazed at him for a moment, wondering what type of person he may be. Was he good natured or did he have a bad boy streak to him? Whatever the case was, she was with him through thick and thin. "Well, there you go. A talking Skarmory. Congratulations. Now just grab a pokedex, bag, and necessary items and you can leave to start your journey." the Professor said as she patted Ranny on the head. Pokemon Name: Skarmory Gender: Female Pokemon Personality: Talker, Calm, Patient, Easy Going, Loves Berries, Fear of Fire Pokemon Ability: Keen Eye Pokemon Health:35 Pokemon Level: 5 Move Roster: Leer, Peck, Assurance

"Oh," Train murmured, staring in awe at the beautiful bird-like Pokémon in front of him. He had never thought he would be lucky enough to encounter a talking Pokémon, let alone have one partner with him. "Hello, beautiful one. Would you consent to having the nickname Eri? It means 'blessed prize', and I believe it not only fits you, but sounds as beautiful as you appear." His golden eyes peeked out from behind his bangs to peer into keen yellow eyes. A grin crossed his face when the steel bird met his gaze calmly, a slight smile on her face.
"Eri, meaning 'blessed prize', you said?" she replied, her voice calm and light. "I think I'd like that, yes. What is your name, trainer?" Eri added, deciding she liked her trainer. He respected her, which improved his worth in her opinion. Yes, she would always follow him. Raising her head carefully, running her beak carefully through his hair to show him her caring. She was happy to be paired with him, even if it had taken a while.
"I'm Train, Eri. Are you ready to begin out journey, my friend?" the trainer responded, a wide grin across his face. This, this was what he'd hoped for. Running a hand over her beak, he returned her gesture of affection, carefully as not to get hurt. Turning back to the Professor, he nodded in response to her words. "Thank you Professor, it was a pleasure to meet you. I hope your day goes well," he told her, before taking his supplies quickly. He put his new medicines in his thigh pack, making sure that they were sorted for easy access, before the Pokéballs were placed on his belt. Once he did that, he was ready to get moving. "Ready to go, Eri? The Skarmory nodded her agreement as her trainer took her Pokéball and clipped it beside the others. "You can stay out whenever you wish. Just let me know if you want to rest in your ball. I'll only ever recall you without your permission if you are unconscious or gravely injured." Eri smiled at him, before nodding. The pair walked out of the lab, ready to begin their journey.

"Wow, I can't believe I got here as fast as I did! I don't know what all those travelers passing through home were talking about, the walk here was a breeze!"
Maroon walked into town with a spring in his step and the biggest grin on his face. He'd come quite a way from home and had seen so much and he hadn't even gotten his first Pokemon! The world was a beautiful place and it was such a fresh breath of air to see things past sand and sky. He had to often keep himself from running the entire way here, lest he get exhausted and caught tired and alone out in the wilderness. Still, he got here well over a half day sooner than he thought'd it'd take and he was still bursting with energy.
Mixed with his excitement, though was a hint of nervousness. He had started his journey so much later than what was the norm, would people talk bad of him? His situation had prevented him from getting here sooner, but surely no one would judge the young man for wanting to pursue a lifelong dream, would they? Maroon shook his head, letting the negativity fall from him. It's ok if people talk. I know I have worked hard enough to earn the right to be here. And I won't stop working until I've climbed the whole way up!
As he approached the lab, he noticed a trainer emerge from the lab, most likely with his first Pokemon. A Skarmory from the looks of it. The steel bird was an uncommon sight flying in the desert, since their armored exteriors made braving the vicious sand storms quite easy. He smiled at the boy and gave him a gentle bow, showing respect to a, soon-to-be, fellow trainer. With a deep breath for confidence, Maroon placed his hand on the door and pushed, walking into the clean and well-kept Pokemon Lab.
"Hello there! My name's Maroon! Sorry I'm a little late. Eight years can just sneak up on some people!"

The Professor heard a voice in her lab. No doubt it was another person ready to start their journey into the world of pokemon. She called at the new comer from the back of the lab. "I'm back here." she called out, then peered over to be sure she could see just who this was entering her lab. This also made her visible to the young lad starting out. She waved him over to where she was.
She took a seat, Ranny walking up to her wanting some attention. "Cuuuuune" it called out softly. The Professor ran one of her hands over the back of Ranny the Suicune's neck. She glanced over at the remaining starters. "Trainers pick one starter. Coordinators and breeders get two." she said simply. She pointed out the six pokemon that were visible, then the two mystery balls. "Oh, and once you're done choosing then you can choose your equipment." she added on.

Maroon approached the Pokemon on display, wide-eyed as ever. He was speechless, the very thought of actually having his own Pokemon was past overwhelming. Would he even be able to pick one? They all seemed like viable options and each one was sure to have its own strengths. Not to mention, there were two unknown variable sitting nearby that had their own appeal. This was a decision he couldn't afford to rush. After all, whichever Pokemon he decided upon would become his partner. Much more than just a caught Pokemon, his partner would become nothing short of his greatest ally and friend. They would suffer through incredible trials, relish in grand victory, and mourn in terrible loss together. It wasn't just a simple matter of choosing a starting Pokemon, oh no. He was making perhaps the most important decision of his journey.
There was Charmander, a classic fire-type that has had countless tales told about its legendary power. Then Mudkip, one of the more unique starters that boosted interesting typing to give it an advantage over one of water's biggest weakness: electric-types. Speaking of electric-types, there was a Magnemite, a surprising addition to the roster of starters. The fourth was Chikorita, a perky grass-type Pokemon that would certainly provide a lot of enthusiasm. Even though all of these were great Pokemon, it was the remaining two that had caught Maroon's eye.
Dratini and Trapinch, two rather small Pokemon that would grow into powerful Dragons. Flygon was a dragon Maroon was all too familiar with, as many of the trainers who passed through Sandstra longed to catch one of these dune masters, as their ability to navigate through sandstorms was second to none. Even he had to admit the idea of being partnered with an eventual Flygon was quite exciting. He couldn't count out Dratini, though, who would become the powerful Dragonite, a Pokemon made famous by being Lance's strongest team member. However, it was no easy feat to raise Dratini and would require lots of rigorous training, something Maroon was very much prepared for.
Yet even with two dragon-types to pick from, the mystery balls still had a voice that spoke to Maroon. He had heard enough about them to be curious enough to pick one. The potential for any known Pokemon to be inside, including ones of myth and legend. Even better, he could encounter a Pokemon with the ability to speak as any human can. Still, though, there was the chance he could end up with a Pokemon he didn't particularly like. While it was true that each Pokemon had their strengths, he couldn't stand there and say he liked all of them. Was it worth chancing it? Whatever Pokemon it was, though, he would make sure they worked hard and would see to it that its full potential could shine.
"Who can resist a little test of Lady Luck? I'll go ahead and take one of the mystery ballls!"
Here's hoping I made the right choice.

From the mystery ball sprung forth a tiny form. To be fair, most forms that came from the mystery ball were tiny. All starters, even from mystery balls, started at their base form. Maroon's starter was revealed and the little guy waddled his way toward his new trainer. He sniffed at him for a moment, curious as to what this trainer was about. After a few moments of inspection, he finally decided he was quite content with this guy. "Axew!" he declared happily. The Professor stood up and clasped her hands together. "Well. That's that. Your equipment is this way." she stated. She then walked over to where the equipment was and showed it to him. "Everything you need right here. Pick one bag and one pokedex." she said. Pokemon Name: Axew Gender: Male Pokemon Personality: Curious, Must Inspect Things, Doesn't Like Being Cold, Playful, Loves Fruit Pokemon Ability: Mold Breaker Pokemon Health: 22 Pokemon Level: 5 Move Roster: Scratch, Leer, Iron Tail Bags: Bag Items: X5 X5 x3 x2 x3 x5 Pokedexes: Read more: varaia.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=pmview&view=1&id=245#ixzz1uM9UqBfY
