It had taken a few days, but Amy and Jessa were finally heading out of Gustella. Hanase had decided to stay behind while the two of them moved on, so it was down to just them for now. For once, Amy had managed to convince Torchic and Zorua to take the ride in their pokeballs rather than follow her around everywhere. The only Pokemon she still had out was her newly born Natu, who refused to travel anyway other than riding on her mama's head. "I know you're a Flying type and all, but you can't go everywhere like that. There's plenty to see on the ground too," Amy told the baby, trying to persuade it off before realizing it had fallen asleep on top of her. "Jess? Help?" Amy asked her friend hopefully.

Jessa stopped walking for a moment, her confused Squirtle squirming in her arms. "Wish I could, but I've been trying to calm my little idjit since we left." Fido let out a husky bark, as well as more violent squirming. He wanted to sniff around! There were so many new smells to experience!
The coordinator sighed and sat down on a nearby rock. She was still feeling a little downtrodden from her last contest loss. She had wanted her precious Latias' debut to be more spectacular. "I'm sorry Amy..I need to clear my head a bit more I guess.."

"It's okay. We all have our down days, right?" Amy said, hoping to cheer up her friend as she sat down beside the rock. Looking over at Fido, she couldn't help herself from laughing at the strange Squirtle's actions. "He seems really happy to be out here, huh?" she asked, petting Fido on the head.

"What... the Houndoom was that?" a Vulpix growled, lifting her nose primly as she paused beside her butler. Yes. That was what she was referring to Gauge as now. Her butler. It made perfect sense to her, really - he waited on her practically hand and foot, fed her, brushed her, kept her out of the rain, and everything else despite her difficult personality. Wasn't that what a butler did? Sure, he could act a little more proper every now and then, perhaps wear a tie and trim her claws more often... but Chinook wasn't going to press the subject. At least, not right now.
"Sounded like some variant of Squirtle" Gauge replied matter-of-factly. Chinook snorted, unsatisfied.
"But it was barking! I'm a canid species of pokemon, Gauge dear. I know a bark when I hear one, and Squirtles don't bark!" For once, Kalkaska decided to throw his opinion in, doing a small spin and barking as if to show that he too was doubtful of this barking water pokemon. The breeder simply rolled his eyes.
"First you complain for an hour about how ONE little burr gets stuck to your tail, and now this?" Although, to be fair, he had to admit that he too hadn't heard of a doggish Squirtle. But he knew for certain that he'd head what he did, and as much as he hated to... this needed to be resolved. Even Sitka, the unusually quiet and mellow Angel Absol, was beginning to ruffle his feathers in annoyance at the hellfire Vulpix. Sighing, Gauge pushed past some more foliage and set off to find whatever made that noise.
Thankfully, the group of two hadn't made it far on the route, and it took no time for Gauge and his posse to locate him. "Ha, look!" He mused, shuffling his feet at the fire pokemon below him. "There's your culprit. A Squirtle who thinks he's a dog." True enough, a girl was holding back a light blue turtle that was trying to get free and sniff around, barking every now and then rather huskily. Well, Chinook would have none of that!
"Listen here, you nitwit" she scolded, huffing at Fido. "There are enough idiot creatures out there that make my general class of pokemon look bad. We don't need some pruney blue sissy girl's pet to make the number higher! It's hard work for me to make up for you all." Kal hung back with Gauge, who at this point was crossing his arms and giving the two girls a bit of a stern look. Well, better he let Chinook get over herself before they moved on.

"A...Vulpix?" Amy asked, her eyes sparkling with stars before she picked up the talking Vulpix and hugging it tightly to her chest. "It's really a Vulpix! I can't believe it! I didn't think I'd see one again!" she said excitably, tossing Chinook in the air happily and catching her again. The noise woke up Natu, who immediately began crying until Amy took her down and hugged her as well. "I'm sorry Natu. You know mommy loves you," she said before finally noticing Gauge was there. "Um...Sorry, is this your Vulpix?" she asked, holding Chinook out embarrassed.

Jessa stared disbelievingly at the Vulpix. Another talker, eh? Fido barked again, not really understanding why the Vulpix was so..uppity. The coordinator opened a Pokeball to reveal her Litwick. The little ghost type took a big breath and sighed loudly. "Thought I'd NEVER see the outdoors again!"
Fido squirmed free and ran over to the Natu, sniffing at her. He'd never seen a Pokemon like her before! "Squortle! Squort!" Yo~! Suuup? Corona giggled and floated above Fido's head. "I like this one Jessa! He's funny."

Before Chinook could get the reaction she wanted from Fido, she was being scooped up from the ground in a terrible manner, all aspects of her body being mashed against some girl she hadn't even known! "Gack, get yer grubby hands offa me you tramp! I don't even know where those have been! For all I know you're a snot-nosed brat that keeps your fingers up your face-holes all day! Gross! Inconsiderate, worthless, female thing!" Chinook snapped, her ears folding and black eyes spouting flames of rage as she tried to struggle free. "And quit squeezing me to your bosom! Hasn't anyone ever told you to wait until the second date?"
Oh... oh dear. Gauge groaned and rolled his eyes, adjusting his cap before looking at his pokemon. Sitka seemed to be staying close to the edge of the forest and away from the ruckus, while Kal... looked down in shame. That was what he was going to be stuck with for the rest of his breeding life, folks. Come and take pity for the Zorua, perhaps even throw some spare change at his paws!
"Er, yes, that would be mine" he mumbled, awkwardly reaching forward to pluck Chinook from Amy's hands and keep her growling self from being too close to the new girl. "I wouldn't suggest doing that again, she's very- oh, yes, your Squirtle. Is he... barking?" he asked, suddenly looking over to Jessa and her new talking Litwick. He was actually far less interested in the dual-type, instead hunkering down to try and see the water pokemon. "Interesting..."
"How rude!" Chinook yipped. "The matter of this girl picking me up is still at large, and-- gah, lean up, lean up! You're choking me!" The Vulpix seemed to gasp for air, even though the breeder had barely leaned down. He rolled his eyes again and continued to peer. "Don't mind her. She's always like this."

"I-I'm so sorry. Please forgive me," Amy said to the Vulpix with a sad nod. As she did, one of her Pokeballs fell off her belt and hit the ground releasing Torchic. "Hey To-" Amy started to say before the small chick began to glow with a white light. "T-Torchic?" she asked worriedly as the light grew and changed shape before fading away, showing Torchic's changes, having grown taller. Her coloring was now majorly yellow feathers, while her legs, a crest of feathers on her head and a heart pattern on her chest remained her original orange color. "Are you okay?"
"Ken! Combusken!" That was fantastic! I feel so much stronger! the new Combusken said cheerfully, stretching out her arms and legs, trying to get a feel for her new form as quickly as she could.
Natu hopped out of Amy's arms and looked at Fido curiously, observing the dog-like Squirtle silently.

Jessa nodded to Gauge. "Yes..He barks. He thinks he's a Poochyena, the poor dear. I have called him Fido." Corona floated over to Chinook and waved one of her tiny hands. "Hiya! The name is Corona~ Who are you~?"
Fido stared back at Natu, his eyes gleaming. He wagged his tail and looked over the bird Pokemon. He had a brief thought of gnawing on the headfeather, but got distracted by Gauge. "Squortle!"

"That's right, beg for my forgiveness. See Gauge? She knows how to properly treat a Vulpix such as myself. She may be worth something yet" Chinook sniffed, flicking a few of her tails and completely forgetting about being squished. Then, suddenly, one of Amy's pokeballs fell from her waist and popped open, shrouding the scene in a bright white light before a Combusken finally appeared. Judging by the girl's reaction, that had not been the same form that she'd put into the capsule.
"Hardly by mistake, I'm sure" the breeder almost growled, the creature in his arms doing it for him as she began grooming herself.
"Probably got jealous over the attention its trainer was giving me, another fire type, and insisted on intervening." Chinook said no more. She would have done the same thing - not that she'd allow herself to be stuffed into one of those things in the first place. Instead, she focused her attention on the talking Litwick. However, the only attention Corona would receive was a flick of the ear. She completely ignored the pokemon otherwise.
"I see. I'll have to write that down" Gauge muttered to himself, giving Jessa a questionable look before awkwardly patting Fido on the head. At that moment, Sitka approached, eyeing the new company warily before touching his chosen trainer with a wingtip. "Arooo?" he asked, tilting his head as he listened to his own echoed voice ring.
"Oh yes, he's right you know. Can't be dallying around these low-lives forever. Gotta get to Torrentia so you can hopefully see about getting that overgrown bird-dog of death into a pokeball" Chinook cut in. Gauge nodded, not one to pass up the opportunity of getting away from a group. The female continued, arching a brow at the two girls. "Who were you guys anyway? Can't seem to recall if you've mentioned it before. Not important enough I suppose."

"Oh, right. I'm Amy and I'm a Pokemon breeder in-training," Amy told Gauge and Chinook. "We were just on our way to Torrentia too. You're welcome to join us if you'd like."
"Busken!" Don't compare yourself with me! Combusken said to Chinook with her nose (or beak in her case) in the air smugly.
Seeing that Fido had changed his attention to Gauge, Natu gave a small squeak-like yawn and hopped back over to her mother and fell asleep beside her leg. Just as she was about to snooze off, she heard two things collide above her and looked up to see her mom rubbing her head in pain and clutching a Pokeball while a bird flew off somewhere. "Did this just fall from the sky?" Amy asked with a wince as she examined the ball curiously. SHe could feel a strange warmth from it, but other than it, it seemed like a normal Pokeball. Deciding to hold on to it for now until she could find who to return it to.

Jessa looked appalled that she had not introduced herself yet. A shame on her mother's careful raising! "Where are my manners? I am Jessa, from Hurricana City. I'm aiming to be a top coordinator!" She gave a bright smile, hoping that her glaring omission would be overlooked..
Fido approached Sitka cautiously, sniffing the air around him. What kind of Pokemon was this? It looked like an Absol...But it had wings! Absol didn't have wings, he knew that much. He gave a bark to assert himself. "Squortle Squort!"

Another aspiring breeder? Gauge grimaced and attempted to hide it with too toothy of a grin. Usually there wasn't a place for him at all in a traveling group, ad surely he wouldn't be traveling with them for long if two out of three people were breeders. Although, he supposed he could shadow Amy for the time being and see if she had any notes worth examining until they got to Torrentia. Chinook suddenly tossed her head back and laughed [well, laughed as much as a Vulpix could] before glaring at Combusken with a sneer upon her muzzle. "Hah, as if I'd compare a pokemon like you with myself! I'm leagues above you!"
The teen jostled the Vulpix a bit before clearing his throat. "Gauge, also a breeder... in training. This is Chinook, that's Sitka, and down here is Kalkaska" he said, introducing each pokemon as he pointed to them. All of them remained quiet except for the Zorua, who sat down beside his trainer and yawned audibly. Guess that was a sign that they should get going... especially since it seemed Fido was starting to crowd Sitka, who tilted his head and took a step back in return. Odd little thing, that was.
Before he could suggest snipping the chit-chat and focusing on moving onward, a shadow of a bird passed over them, and as he attempted to locate the creature above, a pokeball fell and smacked Amy against her head. Curiosity alone kept Gauge from snickering, and as he leaned towards her to get a better look, Chinook snorted. "Well, I never... to think that thing would choose her! Pfft. It isn't right. The stork up there must have dropped the wrong baby!" Gauge ignored the Vulpix and arched a brow at Amy, wondering if she'd reveal what was inside it.

"It'd probably be easier to return this Pokemon if we knew what was in here, huh?" Amy said nervously, tossing the pokeball forward and releasing the Pokemon inside. The light that was released grew until it was taller than Amy and finally faded. The Pokemon left behind was in the middle of a rest, her brown beak and head hidden behind flaming wings. Noticing it's new surroundings, the Pokemon opened her eyes wide and stared straight at Amy.
So it's you than? I suppose I shouldn't complain, the Moltres said with a small yawn. For her own part, Amy just stared at the legendary Pokemon in wonder mouth agape slightly. Close your mouth girl. It's rude, Moltres said in an irritated tone.
"R-Right. Sorry," Amy said nervously.
Don't stutter and stand up straight. I don't plan on staying with you if you plan on being so improper, the legendary continued.
"Sorry! So sorry!" Amy said, immediately trying to follow the new Pokemon's instructions. Meanwhile, Moltres turned her gaze to Jessa and Gauge, looking over them closely to try and see if they would be a threat to her or the girl who'd found her.
And who are the two of you? she asked them.
